#wba agreed compensation with #barnsleyfc for Valérien Ismaël over the weekend and have now held talks. Very close to becoming West Brom’s new head coach. John percy in telegraph

If true why the f1ck can't we keep hold of anyone? Smaller clubs with lower budgets seem to be able to more than us.

because there's a compensation clause which has been met. it happens everywhere, at every club in the world.

We just move on, thanks Valerian for a great season which restored my faith in the smaller clubs being able to compete. It wasn't pretty but was pretty effective!

Oh, and thanks for the £2 million we got for you!

The difference in our new manager search this time is that we're a club with a much higher profile now, seen as successful, and will attract a higher calibre of applicant.

So welcome Franz Joseph from the Austrian Beer Keller league! :D:D

Because we deliberately market ourselves as a virtual shop window. It's a good way to get talent through the door, conversely, when they do well we have to cash in.

    Do I like it? No.

    Do I understand it? Yes.

If every time we get a manager that does well and each occasion the team meet the compensation amount then you’re setting the incorrect release clause.

Tbf this was always going to happen. We do love starting from scratch every season.

Maybe we are that stage of our development where we can start paying players and staff what they are worth. Then maybe it’s not as easy to have their heads turned. We are still paying League 1 wages in some cases. I’m not suggesting we start paying 20k + but we do need to start paying wages that are reflective of being a championship club.

Aren't we just paying what we can afford and being punished for trying to run the club sustainably rather than with a hugely negative bank balance?

We were the bookies favourite for relegation. We finished 5th in the league. It was the biggest underdog story in the whole of British football, possible even Europe. It's to be expected this season more than ever we've got the vultures circling, but it's not like it's unique to us. We've taken managers in the past from clubs below us. Clubs above us in turn take managers from us. Surely that's just modern football?

Tried saying this the other day and got told to rethink my logic…..

Don't think it's a case of rethinking logic, more like rethinking expectations.

Hopefully we get a new manager in place quickly, the guys that have left us for the greener grass recently haven't faired too well and I think West Brom will find that out too .although Last season was a fantastic achievement I'm convinced we wouldn't have got so high in the league under normal circumstances

Because we're outperforming them and our managers/players are more desirable for clubs with greater budgets than ours

"Looks like we're just about where we need to be, then, Valérien. Financially, you seem to be happy with what we can offer you personally, and you're content with the transfer budget."

    "Oui, c'est vrai."

"There's just one other matter to iron out - compensation if another club come in for you. Does £15million sound fair to you?"

    "Zut! Pas vraiment!"

*club gets on the phone to the French Nigel Spackman, who will be content with that release clause.*

Wonder if he does go if he may look at signing any of our players.

I reckon Woodrow could be the type of player they may target.

    And Mowatt.

Alternatively: "we normally have a release clause set at 2 million £€$, is that alright?".
    "Ar, weer do I sign".

You can only base that assumption on the club and not the manager dictating the release clause. It allows a manager to engage. Without permission.
Every successful manager has a price. And wages will be a big factor whether he decides to leave. WBA have a budget way beyond what Barnsley have. I don’t think they go mad with their spending and are in a position not to break the bank so to speak.
The club made losses but are Debt free.

Whether the club can help it or not sooner or later the boards luck will run out and we will be in trouble you simply cannot keep having all this upheaval every time somebody at the club is seen to be doing well. Why can Lincoln hold on to there manager after a WBA approach but seemingly Barnsley FC can't.

Think the difference between Appleton and Ismail is that the former believes in loyalty and not a big fat pay cheque
