I'm watching Die Hard. I do this every December the 1st. Its my favourite film. But what has bugged me for years is the complete and utter dickishness of the guy on reception inside of Nakatomi plaza. When John McClane arrives there near the beginning, he asks the porter where is wife is inside the building. The porter tells him to put her name in the computer; this causes John to realise his wife has reverted to using her maiden name. When McClane states that she's on the 30th floor, the porter says, "the party, the only people left in the building". If they're the only people left in the building, then why on earth would he tell John to use the computer to find his wife. Its obvious, he's sleeping with John McClane's wife!!! He wanted John to know that she no longer calls herself McClane. It's the only plausible reason for him to tell him to use the computer. Or maybe he isn't sleeping with her? Maybe he's obsessed with her and wants to be with Holly, but she gives him the knock back, or worse, doesn't even know he exists. What unfolds in the rest of the film is quite a troubling experience for Holly, and at no point does she seem concerned for the guy on reception, who she must know, would be the first person the terrorists probably encountered. This to me suggests that her feelings towards him don't mirror the ones he holds for her. This guy it seems is the real villain; a deranged psycho madly in love with a married woman. A home wrecker. Thankfully he's capped off in the first 15 minutes of the film, making Karl the terrorist the real hero. Anymore films where the villain isn't the true villain. Yippee ki yay....
