My view. Love the guy. Good footballer but give him a ultimatum. Give him the best we can and sign it by such a date or bye bye. Dragging on too long now. We need time to recruit if he decides last minute hes off.
If he does decide to leave last minute we will have to a whole summer to recruit his replacement. Offer him a contract, if he doesn’t wish to stay he must stay and honour his current one, I think he will too.
Ismael suggested today that his preference would be to keep him beyond this month, regardless of whether he signs a contract. I think he's right as well.
If his replacement is already at the club as some on here suggest, then why the hurry to sell? We could wait until the last minute of the last transfer deadline day. My hope is that he is still our player after the transfer window closes, ideally with a new contract.
Don’t really see a reason to rush into anything. It’s not like we’ve got a load who’s contract is running out like in 2017 & we aren’t in a relegation battle.
The last thing I would do is give him an ultimatum , he is our player & will keep on performing to the best of his ability , start getting heavy with him & you could well push him straight out of the door , if we keep him to the summer it gives us more time to persuade him to stay , sell now for a nominal fee & it would cost us more for a replacement . Val says that Mowatt wants to stay , let things take their course & hopefully we we will have a happy ending .
Personally i would be a bit stubborn with him. At the minute he's basically holding out for a better option which for him personally is great but as a club id just put the ball back in our court and say sign it or thanks for your service but we can do no more and its been dragging for long enough. Your highest paid, captain, loved by the club, live local, play every week. We cant do any more. Move him on, put styles in centre n by a wing back. Not what everyone will want to hear but as a club you can only do do much.
First of all, There’s no need to treat him like that. Secondly, what is the hurry. Your stubborn approach would be completely uncalled for and would not resolve anything
Big fish, little ponds & verse visa. Some left & did well. Some left & got richer, but their football suffered, with regret. Some were surplus, stepped down a league, came back stronger & proved us wrong. I won’t mention names. Big lil will fill in the blanks. Personally, I think Mowatt is exactly where he should be playing his football right now. Relatively successfully & captaining a team with more to achieve. But that should be recognised & rewarded, as it should be with any of the young uns, who do well & stay loyal. If an irresistible offer/ opportunity comes in then yes, thank you & good luck. Grass always looks greener, but under soil heating isn’t all it’s cracked up to be..
Personally id rather had the lads who are 100% committed to club playing. Hope he signs and stays but if he wants off for better money (which you couldn't blame him if he did) then let him ho n wish him good luck. Build team round styles then in middle. Not a stubborn approach. Move people on who want to move. It will 100% be in other lads heads that their captain might not be there for the next game. Better off everyone knowing.
He's turning into a ***** tease to the point I'd consider moving on without him if I was on the board.
You s You said you’d be ‘a bit stubborn’ with him. I’m simply saying he doesn’t deserve that and it would be unfair. Mowatt has given and continues to give his all for us and is under contract. He is obviously honouring that so why should we disrespect it. I doubt very much that his situation is affecting the others. If he does go this window I hope it’s it not while the end of it.
And where is your evidence for this, because it’s certainly not apparent on the pitch, by himself or any of his team mates
All the guessing is just that. Someone on here may be right or not but until there is news to the contrary I choose to accept that he is still our player and I, for one, like to watch him play. I don’t feel bitter or “cheated” by him and Alex’s attitude to playing surely can’t be faulted.
No evidence pure conjecture but it seems to me like we'll be a midfielder light come the end of the window and Valerien is softening the blow.
Why is he turning into a tease ? the lad has not said a word publicly , his agent has not gone public , he is under contract & doing his job to the best of his ability , not rocking the boat or causing any problems , what I see are some inpatient fans getting agitated because he is not doing what they want him to do & now because they do not like it they want the club to start issuing ultimatums or moving him on , why ? he is captain of our team & is a model pro , he is under contract currently , he may extend he might not , thats his choice but we are doing well at the moment so why try to push him out & weaken us , if he does decide his future is elsewhere then look for a replacement in the summer ,but lets not have a repeat of previous january transfer disasters & try & keep this group together & you never know , keeping this group together & showing ambition might be the thing that swings it for him to resign .
I’d be interested to see a Venn diagram of Brexiteers who believed we could get what we wanted from the EU by telling them to F off and ‘fans’ who think we should turn our successful relationship with our captain into sh it.
