BARNSLEY World subscribers will start to see a change in the way they access all areas of the site in the coming weeks.
Due to the increased amount of theft of copyrighted material over the last year 12-months and the problems caused by peer-to-peer file sharing networks, Premium TV and Football League Interactive have worked to introduce a new access mechanism.
Their solution is referred to as DRM (Digital Rights Management).
Premium TV have adopted Windows DRM as the vast majority of end users, more than 85 per cent use Windows, and this is by far the most commonly implemented, tried and trusted DRM technology on the Internet.
This lack of an industry standard across all operating systems means that content secured with Windows DRM cannot currently be viewed on Apple computers (MAC).
Further developments are being worked on which will allow non-Windows browsers (Firefox etc) to view DRM-protected content, and this is scheduled for roll-out by PTV in late 2006.
If you do experience any problems, please send queries to customerservices@premiumtv.co.uk with as much detail as possible to allow the most efficient response. Please include your name, a contact email address, your username, and details of your operating system and Internet browser.
TECHNICAL BRIEFING
Important Note - DRM means that Barnsley World accounts can no longer be shared between multiple individuals.
When the official holder of the account downloads a unique licence, this limits the amount of other computers that can access content using the same licence.
In order to access Barnsley World content, users MUST ensure that they are using at least Internet Explorer 6 and Windows Media Player 9. When attempting to access Barnsley World, a dialog box should appear prompting users to install a licence.
All Barnsley World content will then be accessible. Premium TV's Customer Services department will be on hand if you have any problems acquiring a licence.
Barnsley World - and indeed all Premium TV sites - cannot be accessed using non-Microsoft browsers such as Firefox.

©www.barnsleyfc.co.uk 2006 RNK
