I have about 10GB of mp3's that are about 320kbps bit rate Is there an app that can convert all of my tunes to a bit rate of 128kbps all at once This should in theory compress my music collection by 50%+
CDex will do it http://cdexos.sourceforge.net/?q=download Install it and launch it. Go to Options Menu > Settings > Encoder tab. Choose Lame mp3 encoder as the encoder and set the bitrate to 128. In the Filename tab, choose an output directory. Ignore the filename structure bit. Click OK Now from the Convert menu select Re-encode Compressed Audio files. In the dialogue that opens, browse to your folder with all your music in, check Look in Subfolders and check Keep original directory layout. Now click Select All, then Convert. Go make a cup of tea, this could take a while Note that recompressing mp3 files gives worse quality than re-ripping from CD at the desired bitrate, so do a couple of files and check you're happy with quality first.
Like Revvie P says RECOMPRESSING from 320kbps => 128kbps will NOT give you 128kbps quality - because the file was already compressed to begin with.
