I know this has be done many time in the past, but I need some advice on MP3 players. I bought an Ipod Mini about 2 1/2 years ago and it is currently dying a slow and tortuous death. I want to buy a new MP3 player but am not especially desperate to buy another Ipod. I have heard from many people that the Creative Zen players are pretty darn good. Can anyone offer me advice from their own experiences? All and any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks

I'd go with Creative

I've got the 4Gb Creative Muvo and it's excellent. Still only just over half full - don't really see the need for greater capacity.
But the 20Gb Zen is less than I paid for the Muvo so I'd go for that.

What are the big differences between the Muvo and the Zen?

Yep. Creative easily, i have the 20 gig that has dropped a great deal in price, used every day, solid and robust with good audio output.

I have a Creative Zen Xtra 30Gb, bought march 2004. I have never tried the IPod.

Likes.

1. The sound quality is excellent - lots of equalization settings etc.
2. Better capacity per £ than IPod.
3. Very good quality earphones.
4. All the controls except one (see below).
5. Nice clear display.
6. Battery life - I still get 8 hours or so from a recharge with original battery.

Dislikes.

1. Creative MediaSource Organizer software.
2. Scroller button for menu navigation - quite tricky to use.

RE: why is your ipod dying?

The battery is holding less and less charge (about 1 hour now) and the thing is starting to skip and jump. My feeling is that they rushed the Mini onto the market as lot of people over here have complained. They may have sorted these out with the Nano though.

If i was you i would go for the 30GB iPod Video. Got one for my birthday and the quality of the audio, i can tell you now, not 1 MP3 player will beat it! 14hrs battery, colour screen, plays both MP3 and Mpeg-4 (Video) files, can view pictues, nothing can beat it!

The Muvo is smaller and lighter. Not as much storage but then again the 4Gb one holds about 1000 tracks which I would think is more than enough for most peoples usage.
If YorkRed still reads the board - cheers for the recommendation Rhys!

I have the Creative Zen 20gb

Super machine - can recommend.

It's nearly full though - wish I'd gone for the 40gb, only about £70 dearer.

20gb will hold around 4.5k tracks, depending on length, size etc.
