Reading various quotes from Hill this morning he seems resigned to losing him in January. Maybe if we're within touching distance of the play offs or sitting in the top half of the table, could he be tempted to sign a new deal? Or a drive down to Wolves to watch Adam Hammill sat in the stands could convince him?
lets not get carried away matey I am enjoying our season so far pretty much, its not been without its annoying moments though. I really firmly believe that Jacob Butterfield will not be a Barnsley player next season, not sure as to just when he may go though. But any offers over a million and we will be seriously considering I wager.Of course I want him to stay for the season and next if possible too.But we are by no means a big club or financially stable, we have to trade from time to time.lastly if the lad has got talent he should be allowed to try it at a higher level..as for Hamill I still say it was just pure greed in his case.
Staying would be the best option for his development but money talks; I hope he stays but I expect him to leave.
Who's going to take the risk on him? We dont have to sell in January unless its bonkers money. We've offered him a contract, if he chooses not to sign it then any club will have to go to tribunal. Would Wolves for example risk having to pay £1m-£2m for him at tribunal for a bench player at best? No one seems to have even mentioned that he's not good enough for the premiership yet. He was a squad player and impact sub before the season started. I doubt whether hes quick enough to make it - I see him having a career very much like McPhail's went in his mid 20's onwards - and theres certainly no shame in that.
Just hope we can begin to make proper money from these players we develop. Tired of losing players for next to nothing, then watching Huddersfield get a couple of million for Pilkington etc. On a positive note though, I don't think we're as dependent on Butterfield as we were on Hammill. Personally, I think if he went in January, we could loan a player of similar ability to cover.
Like Dan said, if we wait till the end of the season and he decides to leave the fee will be set by a tribunal. Will this fee be any lower than a fee that we'll get offered in January? Probably not. I can only see us getting offered in the region of £750k, so if that is the case I would make him honour his contract. If he does well for the rest of the season and we finish high enough it could persuade him to stay. If he does well and still wants leave we'd probably still get £750k from a tribunal, as he is now, after all, in the England U21 squad, so won't lose out and will benefit from him staying for the rest of the season. If his form goes downhill for the rest of the season however, then nobody better than us will want him. But if we get offered £1.5m plus in January I think we should take it. I'd be more worried about teams sniffing round Steele.
Gai Assulin Would like Butts to stay, but have every faith that Assulin would fill the gap, and evn more confidence that Hill would find a suitable replacement [probably for peanuts] in the close season.
Re: Gai Assulin everybodys presuming he,s going, personally i don,t think he will i think he,ll sign another contract, there i,m going against the trend.
