"I know that this is only the start of a long, long haul, but after our successful pre-season games in which we might not have scored too many goals yet conceded quite a few, I always stressed that those games were for match fitness, tactical awareness and general getting to know one another. Confidence was never an issue, and in fact still isn't. Confidence comes with results, results come with performances and I'm sure you can see that with a couple of exceptions we're almost there. "Regarding last Saturday we weren't expected to win. it was one of those games you just want out of the way. We never get a result at QPR so nothing changed. I told the lads not to worry if we lost, it was only the first game of the season and anyway history was against us... and so it proved again. We did ok, scored first which to be honest rather took me by surprise, but then got up to our usual tricks and cocked it up. However I was still pleased with the result and I told the lads that they ought to look on it as not losing but coming second. In fact if you say that out of the 92 teams in the leagues we came second it then doesn't look too bad, does it. "Tonight was Crewe's version of our Wembley semi final, a big scalp for them, and all credit to them for putting one over us. They can now brag about thrashing the FA Cup semi finalists, just like we swanked about our wins over Liverpool and Chelsea. Same sort of thing, different cup. We approached tonight's game in a relaxed frame of mind, especially after coming in second to QPR on Saturday. We relaxed all the way through the game tonight and could have had a hatful if we could have put the ball in the net a few times. I will not pick out any particular player for criticism tonight but regarding our conceding penalties then Darren Moore will be on special slopping out duties for the rest of the week until he, not to mention any names, gets it right. "I hope this reassures our supporters that the season isn't already dead and buried, after all, what do results mean in just a few friendlies, a minor cup competition and one pathetic league game? We''ll be there next Saturday to give you more. Get behind the super reds, especially all you young kids with free tickets who've never been before. I bet you'll go away on Saturday at the end of the game filled with disbelief."
Having read his actual reaction He has to change it for saturday as even he admits that there apart from leon there was nothing good about our performance
we came second out of 92 teams? He has lost it big style To tell the team, that he is not bothered if we lost, cos we never get anything there, is ridiculous in the extreme. Which were the succesful pre season matches then, Of course we can see that with a couple of exceptions, bearing in mind we have only had a couple of games, that we are almost there. Stupidest things I have heard even him say.
Are the players ever going to give 100% with that attitude.??? Oh well we never win there and never beat them it doesnt matter....
