The success or failure of Barnsley FC over the next few years depends on you convincing David Flitcroft that you share his vision and thirst for success for Barnsley FC and are willing to give him the backing he needs to turn the annual flirtation with relegation into something more promising. What he's achieved at our club since New Years Day is nothing short of a miracle, but he obviously needs convincing that you aren't comfortable with the status quo of annual struggle and that you really want him to be our manager. This is the most important week in the recent history of Barnsley Football Club. Give the guy what he wants convince him to sign the contract and finish the week as it started on a high. YOU HAVE JUST ONE JOB THIS WEEK SIGN DAVID FLITCROFT AND HIS BACK ROOM TEAM ON PERMANENT LONG TERM CONTRACTS. DO NOT FAIL
The sad thing is I dont think he has been to a game all season - if he had been there to see the transformation I am fairly sure he would have the same view as the rest of us I think this is exactly what he was trying to create with previous manager appointments
There are no guarantees that we will be successful in the future. We are still a relatively small club in this division. Flitcroft may get the job, be backed to the hilt by the board and we may still come unstuck. He may not be able to repeat what he has already done and we shouldn't make the mistake of expecting success. Although there is is nothing wrong with being hopeful. Flitcroft shouldn't get the job for what might happen in the future, he should get the job for what he has already done, which, simply put, has been superb.
I'm sure Flickers demands won't be something daft like a £5m transfer kitty and be able to pay players 10 grand a week, but if there's negativity from them like saying "we can't afford to keep hold of X player and X player" or "we can't imagine being able to afford to recruit from the Championship" then he could well walk away knowing his performance is worthy of a manager of the year award. The board just need to show a bit of positivity, that doesn't necessarily mean they will have to spend any more than they really want to. People will question what has happened to all the transfer income we've made in the last 12 months which I reckon is in the region of £4m - a small portion of that was probably reinvested to get Delap, Scotland and O'Grady on loan, the remainder has probably been given back to Cryne to pay back what he has loaned to the club over the years.
Did anyone hear the Flitcroft talksport interview from this morning that everyone on fb is on about? I haven't and just wondered if someone has a link to listen to it.
Spot on; Flicker has lifted this club out of the festering, stagnating downward spiral that it has been in for years and worked miracles. If the board and owner can't see this and don't want to change the mentality and attitude of the club then they don't deserve to be running it.
PC wants to find a buyer...a relatively small investment(in football terms)now, could give him a club that is back on the up,a club vying at the top of the table will be a much more saleable asset than the one he owns now..as I see it it,it's the first time since PC has owned the club that there is an opportunity to really push on with a proven manager and playing staff that, with just a few additions, (plus the stability for the back room staff and the ability to make greater use of the St Georges medical facility when needed, that Flicker seemed to be asking for)could be pushing for a return to the Premier League..being near the top will get the club noticed by people with ambition,it gives him a real chance of not only recouping the money he has spent..perhaps even an opportunity for him to look back on his tenure as a sound business investment...I wouldn't begrudge the guy who saved the club that.
