Had a spat with someone the other day on a different site .
The miners were selfish. We were to blame. He suffered immense poverty. cos we caused him to go to a 3 day week.
Told him the met. Did quite nicely. :)
Made a right ***** on his sen. Obnoxious two hat.

Ooooh, wish I'd have been there, should have asked him what the strike was all about, doubt he'd have known.

Its always Mrs Thatcher - never Mr Blair (Blair), or Mr Johnson (whom people call Boris), or even Mr Major, Mrs May or Mr Brown. Just a pointless thing I've noticed.

Typical response. Slating Scargill. Lauding Thatcher. Knowing eff all about how it started or what is was about. Went defensive as they allus do. Going off on a tangent.

Bad enough living through it - not something I'd like to relive. Some amazing acts of generosity got us through that 12 months.

The daft thing is mate. workers rights were being decimated. After that strike. And only through European laws were we being protected.
    Take the latest.
The present government have had a dossier sent by unions re the fire and re-hire developments. Over 3 months ago and its gathering dust. Overlooked and will be given a coit of looking at before anything can be done so to speak. I'm not holding any Hopes on that one.
The unions need to come together and the members stand and fight these type of abhorrent practices.

You are right - unfortunately couldn't even get the miners together on this one. Was it true Nacods didn't strike as well? Could be wrong

I know this government paved the way for a system which allowed schools to get rid of older more expensive teachers

Nacods voted to strike but McNestry sold out .
The Miners were together we voted a few months before to strike if any pit were victimised . Cortonwood etc were picked by the Coal board for exactly the confrontation. It caused .
The Notts miners wanted a cop out instigated by alleged people who’d been approached by elements of British Coal and probably the Govt.
The vote on the incentive scheme whereby it was kicked out was brought back in agitated by the same people who broke the strike .
Miners in Notts were pressured and bullied to go back to work alongside the bought out scabs .

Remember the vote - government closing Cortonwood without the review procedure was the catalyst. They knew what was going to happen as they had been stockpiling coal for a while. Most sickening site I remember was driving to Cleethorpes- on the other side of the road was 40 coal wagons with same number of police vans escorting them. Some money spent to break the strike

The fire and hire has been used in this very Borough.

About 10 years ago BMBC did it. Strange thing I agreed with the change they wanted to make. But absolutely 100 percent against how they did it.

    Unions did nob all either.

Precedence was set. So, I left them and haven't looked back since joining private sector. Although the lack of unions in private sector is alarming

The coke wagons would have been from Scunthorpe Steel works going to Orgreave for the coke .
Also the army of Police brought in were billeted at the old Beachcomber holiday site near the old Fitties caravan site at Humberston in Cleethorpes.

To be fair, that is a polite way to refer to 'that thing'

I remember being 5 year old and seeing what she did to most of my family

I was a striking miner & remember every day of it as if it was yesterday, especially the day I got picked up & locked up, but that story is for another day, but the most scary thing to me is that it is 37 years ago & the time as flown by & the memories are still fresh , where has my life gone ? lol

I'll have to dig out my response to young nudger years ago. Which I think had my all time number of 'likes' because he said I didnt have any valid thoughts about it, cos it didn't affect me.

    Oh yes it fakin did
