Is it me or did he just have a competent normal game with not that much to do? I'm sure he was voted MOTM but that makes it look like we got hammered. Who decides these things?
Man of the Match sponsors choose Made a great save in the first half - was hard to choose man of the match yesterday - in my opinion no one really stood out - I'd have given it to Nyatanga
Cheers Know what you mean no-one stood out but apart from that one good save couldn't see why Muller should be MOM. Souza would be my choice was awesome in the air won just about everything.
the match sponsor chooses man of the match, so its up to them really. last year they gave hecky a MOTM nuff said
Who was it that posted on here and was a big fan of Nardiello (cause she fancied him)? She sponsored one game and gave it to him - he only came on as sub and didn't do owt!
That reminds me Not a lot of people know this, but me and my brother can claim credit for getting the reds into the Premier League. We wer away at Southend and we were invited by a company down there who asked us to choose the man of the match. Before the game we decided to give it to Danny Wilson, who had taken some incredible stick as a player and we felt sorry for him, and we thought if he gets it it will boost his confidence and help the team. We won 3-0 and sure enough Danny Wilson was MOM. After that he went from strength to strength and we all know what happened next. So it was all down to us!
The Full Ponty, AliTyke and friends chose MOTM on Saturday. It was disappointing that TFPs usual criteria for picking the MOTM wasn't adhered to though.
Would have given it to one of the centrehalves personally, thought they both played very well - though Muller was flawless as usual.
It's been a hell of a long time since we had a keeper that I had this much confidence in. We also gave him MOTM yesterday - thought he was outstanding all through the game, including one absolutely world class save in the first half. I agree that games where keepers are given MOTM are usually ones where one team has actually taken a battering and the score doesn't reflect it, but credit due, ffs. He was decisive, commanded his box and I had utmost faith in him to dig us out of problems, to claim crosses etc. Possibly the best keeper I have seen play for us, and we've had a few good'uns. It's pure vanity that makes people reluctant to choose the keeper as MOTM, as we all know the away fans will point to it as proof that they were robbed. For my money it was a fine individual performance in a game where few stood out. Souza was clearly another candidate, but made too many mistakes to counter the good work he did, imo. JCR was another, according to some of the papers, bit although a BIG improvement on his previous displays was too prone to backing off, slowing down, looking for passing options in situations where he should have been rounding players and crossing the ball, to be doing the job required.
Reasoned Argument Mate I totally agree with your assessment of Muller as a keeper - he is commanding, reliable and imposes himself on both defenders and attackers in and around the 6 yard box. He is also remarkably agile for a big bloke. As many have said he is looking like one of the best keepers we have ever had. My point was just that he did not seem to have enough to do to justify being MOM, even though he was totally faultess in dealing with the situations which did arise. Anyway whatever he is a top player and it's great to have him in the side.
I thought that Muller was not as good as usual yesterday His handling was a bit iffy at times , he juggled a few and was not really tested apart from on one occasion and the goal. I was surprised he got MOM, but he has been a Star so far this season.
You lot are clearly mental. Souza? Nyatanga? Our defence was so poor in the first half that only 2 quality saves from Heinz kept us in the game. The goal was the perfect example - Werling was 30 yards out of position, Souza left the ball to go across goal & Lewin sliced in into Gray. All four midfielders were non-existent. Odejayi won quite a lot & was probably our best outfield player. Mostto looks out of his depth. Who else could we give MotM to? We should've been buried at half time & choosing the best player on the park was like asking which turd smells the best. Heinz didn't turn up for the Champagne anyway.
Thought Mossto's movement was excellent again, but he didn't get the service. Thought the midfield and defence were shocking for the majority of the match. Despite what I said last week about JCR shouldn't have to be on the pitch just to help bail out the defence, he was superb doing that job in the second half, getting tackles in everywhere and winning us numerous corners to help take the pressure off. Covered more yards than the rest of the team put together. For that alone I'd have given him MotM, but there wasn't much competition.
Mostto's body language is awful. He looks like he's just been told the following: (1) His wife is having an affair with his Dad (2) All his children are gay (3) Peru has just been wiped out by a Volcano, but his Dad survived (4) He's being replaced in the line-up tonight by Coulson (5) His life savings were invested in Northern Rock (6) The moon isn't made of cheese (7) His room mate for away games will be Justin Fashanu My ratings for Grant McCann: Heading: 0 Passing: 2 Free kicks: 8 Tackling: 0 Positioning: 0 Shooting: 1 Central midfielders should look like they have seen a football before.
McCannt's 2 free-kicks at Southampton, could lead to us effectively be playing with 10 men until his current crapness negates those 2 goals on the Tally chart.
RE: McCannt's 2 free-kicks at Southampton, If Association Football were American Football (you can bring on a player just to take the kicks), then Grant would be an excellent addition to the squad. Unfortunately that isn't the case. He can only pass the ball backwards, he's slow, he can't tackle, he's often miles out of position & he's weak - apart from that he's pretty decent. I'd rather have Mattis in the side, with a broken leg. I thought Akinbadbuy murdered Souza for the first hour, but it seems he's God to most people on here. What a bunch of blind mentalists.
opinions schmopinions I thought Souza dealt with Akinbiyi very well-Akinbiye persistently fouled but was hardly ever penalised
Odejayi won quite a lot & was probably our best outfield player. It was all sounding so good until then...
RE: Odejayi won quite a lot & was probably our best outfield player. well on this one I agree-if only Davey could persuade Miggy that he doesn't need to help the midfield out-he's on to link up-what's Peruvian for that? -with Odejayi
