I have had an arthroscopy (keyhole surgery on the knee) and was off work and limping for 8 weeks. Granted I am not a professional footballer but even with the best case scenario he wont play again this season.
Am I reading these wrong? Or did the original official statement say cruciate ligament according to the 'it's official' post below. And now it's damage to a lateral ligament? Which is one of those down the side of the joint. It's confusing. The wording has either been changed on here, or on the official site.
It might be ..that until the invasive surgery is done, they don't really know. Didn't he say the MRI scan was inconclusive?
arthroscopy will assess the damage and then they will decide what to do, reconcontructive surgery, cleaning up cartledge. I'm not sure if they reconstruct knees with keyhole surgery now, I think they do, but they used to have to slice down the middle and open up the skin. Just gipped.
But why would they say cruciate ligament if they couldn't see it. It's like telling someone with concusion that their head has come off.
Thought the lads on the radio said he'd banged it on the post as he was clearing the ball. <img src ="http://www.cu-fc.premiumtv.co.uk/javaImages/25/23/0,,10424~3547941,00.jpg">
Arthoscopy itself is just to assess the damage with a camera but most remedial work can now be done during the same procedure. The point I was trying to make that even if he had just the arthroscopy itself without any other procedure being carried out he is looking at 6/8 weeks before he can get back to training so will not play this season.
