Dreamboy reported it over the weekend. He was quoting a 'newspaper', therefore it must be true.

If there were no such clause

would it not make sense to publicly quash the rumour? That's what worries me, the silence from the club on the subject.

Nick Colgan looked enthusiastic and good-humoured for the first time in months, during the warm up on Saturday, and ever since the Muller contract rumours started, it made me paranoid as to whether he thought he might be back in contention in the near future.

I really would HATE Muller to leave, or to even have such an escape clause - after the McIndoe business we surely won't have allowed it again, would we?

He made no secret of the fact that he .................

............ wanted to play in the Premier League, and saw Barnsley as a stepping stone to doing that, so I would not be surprised at all if he insisted on such a clause before he signed. If that's the case, I would say that we would probably not have got him at all if we had not agreed to it.

It's only speculation but if he has got that clause in his contract and we get a million for him in January then we can't really grumble.

I'd hate him to leave because I think he's arguably the best keeper we've ever had, but we can't stop the lad from wanting to better himself, and lets hope that SD can find another 'Muller' from somewhere for peanuts to replace him if he does go

I'd be gutted if we sold him for £1m, I think he's worth more. Muller is an amazing find from Simon Davey, there's no doubt about it, but I'd be suspicious if we had to sell him for £1m on the nose, as that was our best offer and we were under contract to honour it. (Not of the club by the way.)

It's like having a house worth £250k left to you in a will and selling it for £125k "coz, hey it's all profit"

He is worth more, he knows that, his agent ...........

......... knows that, we know that, everybody does, but that's exactly why they have such a clause put in their contracts these days.

It stops clubs slapping a £6 million fee on the players head, to scare off the teams that ultimately the player wants to join.

Surely the clause would say a 'minimum of' and be in line with market value at the time of the offer or something. Then BFC would only be obliged to talk to clubs who are offering in the region of the 'right price' and those offering less, but are in the Prem, can all **** off for being cheeky?

That's exactly the wording I'd use anyway, right down to the poor spelling of '****'.

I saw a lawyer once, I think that makes me qualified to draw up contracts.

RE: If there were no such clause

Whilst I'd be gutted to see him leave, particularly under a release clause, I guess it's likely that's the only way we'd have got him in the first place, so we get half the season out of him which puts us in a good position in the league plus a pretty healthy profit as well - would still be good business from Davey.
Hopefully these are all just press rumours though and there's no such clause and he isn't going anywhere.

One Short Club Statement From The Board...........

can put our minds at ease and stop all the speculation.

Yes it was in the Yorkshire Sport, amongst others.

Spot on cuz. Better to have him for 6 months in which he's played brilliant and make a bit of cash, rather than telling him he cant have a clause and ultimately not signing for us.

    Interesting

Of all the players we signed in the summer, I believe he was the only one to be given a three year contract.

What did we pay for him?

I think he may have even been Free so if we did have a £1million sell on clause its a bit different to the McIndoe situation where we had to sell him on at virtually cost price

I dont see how we can stand in the way of any player who is offered a genuine chance to play in the Prem and is prepared to pay a reasonable fee.

Not sure we will fall for the "bigger" championship club one again though

In any case he hasnt gone anywhere yet

    According to Chronicle

    He cost us £250,000.

I'd be surprised if there aren't quite a few players at the club who have a release clause, but I'd also be very disappointed if Muller's is only £1 million considering how highly Davey rates him. I would have thought we could have negotiated better than that.

i'd look at it this way we've got at least another 6 games to go yet before any thing can happen and whats to say the premiership club wouldn't allow us to loan him back for the remainder of the season? all i hope is that we purchase another keeper with the money anything other than goin back to colgan
