..so my comments may not reflect exactly what happened at MK. However, I did read Nudger's post earlier and I think the situation is much more serious than he seems to imply. For me it's irrelevant who we play at League 1 level. The simple fact is that we should be able to give a decent account of ourselves against anybody simply by having the passion and guile to have a pop at them. If we lose to a team near the top then that's fine as long as the players do what I've just said. Similarly if a lower end club beats us then at least we should be saying 'at least we had a go'. This team seems incapable of 'having a go' and is the worst team I have watched in 40 years. I am not exaggerating. The football served up is poor and the commitment/movement is dreadful. We are definitely in a relegation fight
You say that but in the last game I went to against Yeovil I saw tons of effort. Whilst there's a lot of lads that are struggling to adapt to this level I don't think it's through a lack of effort, I don't see players with the attitudes of McCourt, Mellis, Shea etc in this side. The main thing they need is experience alongside them. If they struggle to perform when Cranie, Ramage & Winnall are back fit I'd be seriously concerned
I think I use the words 'commitment/movement'. There might be some semantics there but nevertheless I still think there's a lack of both. It's just awful to watch. As for experience, you have a point but if you do have the likes of McCourt/Shea (like last year) who have experience and they dont help then there is no answer to the problem. So what do our experienced players do when they play? Do they guide? Do they issue instructions? Do they lead by example? I dont think they do. I also think ALL players have to be up for the fight now because fight is what it is. I'll be looking for some passion next weekend. If it doesnt happen then God help us.
Aside from a few glimpses of brilliance I thought McCourt was a waste of a shirt. Players like him are so frustrating because you know what they can do when they can be arsed and therein lay the problem. We had enough quality in our team to have avoided relegation last season but regrettably most of our genuine quality belonged to players with appalling attitudes and hearts the size of a pea.
Ye but in general he was a massive disappointment. Wouldn't get back into position when we lost the ball meaning we were all over the place defensively. No one expected him to graft non stop but a team fighting to stay in the league can't afford to carry someone like that.
I just wonder if we're missing Ramage and Winnall more than we'd like to believe. There was plenty of commitment when we beat both Sheffield United and Bradford City - the two teams that are held up as the finest examples of where you can get with commitment. Since then we've lost Winnall and Ramage so what else has changed? Unless he's lost the dressing room altogether we ought to be able to get back to that level when they return.
I notice McCourt has played a grand total of 7 games for Brighton, some of those from the bench. There's a reason why he never plays regularly wherever he is, that is because he's a trickster who is actually a **** 'footballer'. He soon gets found out when he signs for clubs. Waster.
