I thought Neil Redfearn's book was awful - but this one is just shocking! The bit where Ian says that Liverpool fans are the best in the country and the only top flight club not to have a hooligan element in the 80's - yeah right, they've still got a big presence now. Also goes onto say Liverpool fans where not at fault for Heysel and Hillsbrough. Ian, correct me if I am wrong but 27 people were arrested after Heysel, all Liverpool fans. All the fans that died that night were mainly italian, with 1 Irish Man in the total count. As for the book itself, all it does is run through his games, mainly mersey derbies. No little late night stories or anything. Either Ian didnt want to tell us the goings on that would have happened with Souness et al or he's just very very boring - I know where my money lies.
Thanks for the tip ..... A visit to Liverpool back in those days was certainly not for the fein-hearted. When we played there in 81/82 it was very rough indeed on the streets. I seem to remember an article in the Chronicle that mentioned an incident in which some off duty policemen were beaten up whilst carrying a disabled supporter and their wheelchair through the snow. A mate of mine got glassed when he sought sanctuary in a pub from a group of Scousers that wanted his wallet.
Ryhill Tyke will be able to articulate our premiership trip better than me. But being chased over stanley park, having the old mans car damaged beyond repair jacket torn off my brothers back and Ryhill Tyke suffering a broken rib and black eye says to me that there is just like the old days a large element of holliganism at Anfield. All credit to the liverpool fan who took me and brother into their house and gave us whiskey and beans on toast though! Oh, and the copper that picked us up spraying himself with pepper spray dealing with an incident on the way to the cop shop was priceless!
dont frget about young kenny u got slashed from top to bttom of his back with a stanley knife i got a kcking outside the bus from 30 fourteen year olds no hooligans in liverpool ur avin a laugh
