Tonight was my first game since Colchester, as an FYI. Based on tonight, I'd have Jean in my defence at this level every day of the week. So many teams in League One lump the ball up - he wins everything in the air. Sure, he's not perfect on the floor but you can get away with the little errors on the ground at this level unless its against the sides right at the top (MK Dons etc). Thought he was very, very useful tonight. Only beaten by Scowen (deserved MOTM) and on a par with Waring who put a serious shift in and held the ball up brilliantly considering he was upfront with a man who barely moved after he scored. Good win - important win too. Get Winnall in up top for Hemmings and keep Scowen/Pearson together and we could have a relatively painless end of season run.
He had a good game but still looked the dodgiest of the back 4 & should've been booked early on which would've seen him walking a tightrope for the rest of the game. But even though I don't particularly rate him the back 4 has looked a lot better having our 4 most experienced defenders in it & as long as they look as solid as they have in the past 2 games then they should carry on playing together
thought he had great game tonight. bloke behind me, summed him up perfectly though - "he's always got one in him"
M'Voto is underrated by way too many on here. If he makes a mistake its highlighted. If Ramage or Lewin make a mistake people let it go. He doesnt make anymore than those two do either. M'votos a rock and strikers hate playing against him. Just like last season hes getting stronger every game and its no coincidence our defensive record is better since he's been in the side.
Defensive record improve way before BFJ came back in the team. When we stopped being so attack minded and started defending after the Notts County game. The downside of that in the absence of Winnall and the loss of form of Hourihane we gave stopped scoring many.
Don't get me wrong mate I really like him and I love how he attacks the ball I just find sometimes his clearance tend to go up in the air rather the up the pitch.
We've conceded 4 goals in last the last 5 games. M'voto has played in them all. At what other part in the season have we had a record that good.
He scares the **** out of me but i love the way he plays Gives everything and wins 99.9% of headers yes he makes a few mistakes but so does everyone else. His tackle in first half last night was one of the worst ive seen and didnt even get booked
I totally agree. Wins just about everything in the air and likewise with his tackling. If he could bring the ball out of defence as well, well he would probably be playing in the premiership - but he can't and that's why he is at this level. Can't remember him having a bad game at the back end of last season or this season at all.
You're using that as an example of how great M'Voto is but I think most people would agree the big difference is having Cranie & Ramage back in the team as we've conceded only once in 2 games since their return & looked a lot better. Listening to Barnsley player we certainly weren't solid down at MK Dons & 2 goals flattered us
Its funny how people just cant seem to accept M'voto is a big part of what is currently a strong defence.
I'm sorry but that's just plain wrong. There's no way either Ramage or Nyatanga make as many mistakes as M'Voto. And it depends what sort of striker you are as to whether you'd hate playing against M'Voto. If you're a Tom Pope type that is strong in the air then yes you'd hate playing against him but as we've seen there's plenty of pacy players who've done well up against M'Voto taking advantage of his dodgy positioning
He's certainly a part of it. A big part? Is he more important than Ramage or Cranie? Not from where I'm looking he's not. Ramage is the leader in the back four & Cranie is the one that brings the calmness & can get us playing out from the back.
