and im sorry, again for starting a new thread but this replying business is hit and miss for me for some reason.. so yeah, soz like.. but i spose its a new topic in a fashion.. because im asking u for ur 1st cup game at the Well.. strangely enough, mine was actually my 1st Reds game, full stop. 1st Reds game, 1st home, 1st cup, 1st goals, and 1st win! and the game has already been mentioned in Kevs thread.. The day my dad introduced me to the joys of Barnsley FC. a love affair began! 7th January 1989 FA Cup 3rd Round Versus Chelsea 4-0.. heres a link to an interesting article about that game, that u may have seen before. still worth another look either way.. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/fa_cup/7276231.stm and despite everything that happened in that game, i remember nowt particularly... i was only 6. my 1st league game was a month later on a cold tuesday nite against Watford. ive found the date, it was 28th Feb 89, and just over 6000 were in attendance.. again i remember little other than it being barstewarding cold, and the match finishing 2-2. i cant find out for sure but i think Currie got the equaliser with the last kick.. so, thats the beginning of my Red story.. not a bad 1st match though eh? an FA Cup hammering of Chelsea.. and my 1st away game, as i said last nite was a year or 2 later at Swilsbro when we beat the piglets on pens! so yeah, great firsts when i think about it.. wonder what my last match will be? in fact, i wonder how many games ive seen us play? how many wins, goals etc. should be a way of finding out somewhere i reckon...
don't know about mi 1st but there's been some memorable 1's down the yrs, Stoke away in the FA Cup pink panters every flaming where n pend in like sardines as over 7,000 reds were in attendance, Leicester at Oakwell wi Joachim netting a beauty only for Archie to better it from 30yards and Silky Dave coolly walking up to take a pen n just chipped it into the net in slow motion as a limping Kevin Poole dove the wrong way good days when the MAGIC was still alive in the FA Cup
County Cup Final 1967 : Barnsley v Sheffield Utd Barnsley were in the 4th, Blunts in the 1st. They had a decent side out with Jones, Birchenall, Badger, and Hodgkinson in goal. Its a long time ago, so forgive me if the facts are wrong. They went 1-0 in the second half through Mick Jones, but we equalised through Thomas. We then went on to batter them for the rest of the game. The rules were that if the game was a draw the trophy would be shared 6 months each. The crowd were going barmy chanting for extra-time. Finally they turned the floodlights off, and we had to leave. Great game (even though it is a bit of a blur now!!)
