A few years ago I started tracing my family tree and after finding many interesting characters, one was hung, another one blew his arm off by making his own cannon and then finished up drowning in the canal at Royston. To my great shame I have got back to 1786 and discovered that I am descended from a family of, oh god this is too terrible, DEE DAAS. At least he had the sense to move to Barnsley. I am now telling everyone that I was found in a box outside of Oakwell and don't know who my family was.(furious)
Sheffield The worlds largest village. Originally Sheffield only consisted of about 10 families. Poeple living and working in Sheffield only came from these families, they worked lived and married each other. It was only when Irish and Scottish workers moved to Sheffield to work that inter family breeding became less! And they call us inbred!
Mine too ... Great Grand-parents on father side orginally from swamp-land, going even further back it appears some of them may have been WELSH !!
Now thats shame .....
