I was 10 years old. Fell in love with Barnsley FC that day. Still in love with them 47 years later. https://www.facebook.com/share/15U61YVSh2/
I remember that one. I was only 8 myself and had been going to Oakwell for about a year with my grandad. When Warnock was sent off I was indignant and told my grandad it wasn’t fair that Warnock got sent off when he’d only just come on!
Good for you mate I feel the same way. I always think of the old advert.when people say they're not going again. "A puppies not just for Christmas".
Graham Pugh. What an incredible perm and tache combo. Such fine hirsutism is all too rare these days.
Feel pretty much the same mate - although sometimes it feels more like a lifelong affliction!!! Can’t see anything stopping me and the family still going. Great-grandad, grandad, me, my sons and already bought grandson’s ticket even though he can’t go yet. No judgement on others who feel differently.
My first ever game was 17th September 1988 v Chelsea i was 15 , funny thing was i liked Chelsea and actually went to see them, i was with my mate and his sister who were Barnsley fans and i was in the ponty, i cheered when Chelsea scored(got told to shush from my mate lol), a penalty from Graham Roberts and then i found myself cheering again moments later when Jim Dobbin equalized lol. Finished 1-1, same season we beat chelsea 4 nil in the fa cup! Them were the days........
Mine was a 0-0 with Bradford. https://www.footballwebpages.co.uk/match/1988-1989/second-division/barnsley/bradford-city/305562
74/75 season - Bradford City at Oakwell. Two goals down and then super sub Mick Butler came on and scored two goals to make it 2-2. I was hooked! Bradford fans walked through the bus station after the game and broke several windows. There was always trouble with Bradford back then.
Mine was season after under Clarke - Hartlepool at home. Be going ever since despite being in exhile from 1988
Allus bugs me. I know it was the 65/66 season and we lost. But can't remember the team. I did watch another team prior to that. To my shame I'll not mention em lol. But sad circumstances led to the change. Blame mi cuz who I still sit with today telling him. Often. "Look at all the money thas cost me" 66/67 it really took hold. I didn't miss a home game that season. And missed less than 10 home games I reckon, ever since. Love Barnsley hate football.
Mine was Barnsley 4 Workington 0, 11 April 1977, Easter Monday. I’d been pestering my grandad to take me for a while and this was my Easter present. Brian Joicey got 2 goals, 2 penalties I think, and he became my first Reds hero. 2 years later we had a team full of heroes. I can still remember how excited I was when Allan Clarke came to the club. He changed everything and doesn’t get anywhere near the credit he deserves.
I watched a few games during 1965/6. We were at a very low ebb in every way. I missed one one home game in 1966/7 when Dennis & Buckle rescued the club. I was a regular for the next 3 years. In 1970/1 I was playing in the Sheffield works leagues on Saturdays then left South Yorkshire. I played North Berks football, Saturdays again from 1984 to 2000. Then got to go to home and away games when I could. I got a Season ticket for 2017/8 until last Season. I surrendered it as the regular 330 mile round trip was getting too much to do regularly. I am back to occasional home & away games now.
Mine was the following season ( 76 ) against Bradford at home. Butler had gone and Prendergast had arrived. Warnock and Otalakowski had just departed. Kenny Brown was the fans favourite “ boo boy “ although he won the player of the year trophy.
Mine was against Wallsall at Oakwell in the old Milk Cup (League Cup) on October 25th, 1983. We lost 2-0 and were knocked out 3-0 on aggregate. Can't remember anything about the game other than the glorious whiff of Bovril surrounding the West Stand. I suppose watching us lose in my first ever visit to Oakwell set my expectations for what I'd witness over the next 40 odd years. But on saying that, I've seen many a good time as well.
