My humble opinion on the Howard situation

This is football. I'm sure when Brian Howard signed for us from Swindon he got loads of stick from Swindon fans.

The reality is Brian Howard has been exceptional for us during his time at the club. He has scored the goals that have kept us up twice and his attitude and commitment have always been exemplary for me. His performances last season understandabley attracted interest from bigger clubs who can offer higher wages and a higher standard of football. Consequently I have absolutely no issue on him moving on and bettering himself. If he was a Barnsley fan who came through the ranks maybe you could argue differently but he's not but has given his all for the club.

All that will happen next is we will go to a lower club and take their best player. their fans will complain and then they will go to an even lower club and on and on. That is how football works.

Personally, I don't think Brian is good enough for the premiership as he doesn't control games. However, you can't underestimate the value of a goalscoring midfielder and I think he will do very well at this level. It is a shame he is going to Sheff utd BUT should we keep a player we know is going at Christmas? Not sure either way and don't even understand this principle of loan then buy. That said it happens frequently in the game so there must be a bigger incentive for the club losing the player that we can't necessarily see from the outside looking in.

I hope it all works out for you personally Brian, but not for your new team!
