I know folk on ere via numerous threads can remember their first game, either home or away. Well I was taken far before my memory could cope. 3-4 years old. So mines not even a memorable one! My lads will be 07/10/14 int JPT at Oldham..... oh how he'll look back on the future BBS mark 26 in full HD 3D interactive schizzle in a few years and slag me off as a fully interacting hologram for taking him! Or sommet...
My lad was 4 when I first took him. 2-0 defeat at home to Donny in 2005, the game when Uriah Rennie sent off Antony Kay and Neil Austin. Hooked ever since, season ticket. I'm gonna sound all sentimental, but its the 4th generation of us lot to follow the reds. Quite proud if I'm honest.
Good lad! Reyt introduction of filth and violence that one. BFC, born not manufactured! ...... like that
My first game was 2-2 Everton match at home 1998 with my primary school. Still remember us scoring and our teacher jumping up to celebrate and not realising the seats folded back up automatically and falling down on the floor, her legs sticking out around lasses head in front of her! I remember it was blooming freezing waiting for the coach to pick us up near petrol station to get back home too!
Oldham away on a cold wet Tuesday night , will either make or break him . Hope lad enjoys game and gets the buzz
You are a good dad. Something old school about the sportsdirect.com Park that makes it a good un. Rochdale Road End is pretty good and it's a decent journey there.
My first away game was 1990 I think, it was against Wednesday, in the Zenith Data Systems Cup (??). We won on penalties. I hope for a similar result for your young un, pal.
My first away match was on a Tuesday night at Oldham in FA Cup in Jan 1996. Though it was really windy rather than wet. Memorys a little hazy but I seem to remember we lost to a penalty which was given for an Oldham player tripping over himself. Didnt put me off!
My little girl's first away match was Saturday gone at Rochdale. She'd been looking forward to it so much. And then she gave a mini match review to one of the bobbies on the train to Brighouse, in which she reiterated her displeasure at the referee daring to book her hero, Conor Hourihane, when he was letting their team off with fouling our players! She was more pleased with the fact that we scored 4 goals in her first home game (against Gillingham a few weeks ago), just as we scored 4 in my first game (against Workington in 1977) and then we won 1-0 in her first away game, just as we did for my first away game (against York in the fog in 1978)... ...however, a quick look at the record books and it seems I'd already been to Stockport for a 0-0 draw on a Friday night and to Donny for a 2-2 draw the day before my 9th birthday, which was actually my first away game. I won't spoil it and tell her though! Actually, I recall spotting myself behind the goal at the Donny game when it was on Football Special the next day. Fab birthday present. I dare say my little one will be watching the Bradford game back as soon as we get home to see if she can see herself too. She's looking forward to the Bradford game, because we can pick up her season ticket we paid for before the Swindon game that they wouldn't actually hand over until we take her birth certificate to prove she's under 16. She's 9!
Uddersfield in 79.....Clarkies promotion year. Int shed end singing You're supposed to be at home. By it wo cold that neet
The first match I took my son to was Boxing day 1994, against Grimsby at Oakwell we won 4-1, he was 2 and the only way his mum would agree to me going to the match instead of going to her parents was if I took Chris with me. Fecking great day !! His first away match was Tranmere March 15th 1997 drew 1-1. Not quite 5 years old and a fanatical Reds fan ! Again his mum was not best pleased we went ! My first match was in 1967 and my first away match Boxing Day 1970 Mansfield Town. Won 2-1 I think.
Port Vale during the Clarke promotion season to the 3rd division. Went on the train special on me own when I was a snip of a kid. Absolutely mental from getting on the train at Barnsley to getting back again. Never seen as many bricks and bottles and cans being thrown around, utter madness from both sets of supporters. I dint do any chucking just shitting.
My first away match was a 0-0 draw at Rotherham, 31st August 1968. I can remember being totally disgusted that Barnsley had to play in an all white kit, as Rotherham were playing in an all red strip that season. My logic was everybody knew Barnsley played in red and white, so it should've been Rotherham who changed, obviously! Neither of my kids were interested enough in football to want to go to an away match, sadly for me.
Remember it well. Gunnar Halle was the player I think. There was a pic int Chron showing him a metre or so away from Archdeacons(?) leg!!!! Was the worst dive for a pen to this day I've ever seen. Always packed Oldham out on 80/90's away days.
My first away game was Wednesday in our PL season. My first away victory was some 2 and a half years later, 4-1 away at Walsall, I think Higgy scored a hat trick.
Looked more of a slip. Halle himself said at the time he was embarassed a pen was given. Just that George Cain from Bootle is the second worst ref we've ever had behind Gary Willard.
