That’s the best I’ve seen us play in ages. That’s not saying much like - we’ve been awful recently. But we were ok today. I saw effort, chances and some decent individual performances. Yet again though, there’s errors there and they’ve cost us. And the midfield is so weak. This performance level from now on won’t keep us up. We’re so far back that we need wins, and we need them now. But add a midfielder, a new forward and Morris to this team and it would look better. Player ratings: Collins - I’ll reserve his until I get another look at the goal. It looked awful. Williams - 7 - much improved. Well done Jordan. Moon - 5 - Looked solid enough at the back but lacks composure on the ball. Not bad Jasper. Helik - 6 - A couple of mistakes in the second half but otherwise usual Helik. Andersen - 8 - Bailed us out a few times. Vita - 7 - Looked dangerous second half Wolfe - 7 - For his first start he did well. Looked composed and showed for the ball. Good on him. Palmer - 4 - Poor, unfortunately. Slow to get the ball under control, slow to put a tackle in. Styles - 6 - Looked lively but missed a couple of chances. Could’ve had the goal of the season. Iseka - 5 - Looks tidy on the ball but just goes missing. Might be better if we had a midfield. Cole - 6 - He put in a lot of effort today. Again, it’s tough to judge with no service. Shout out to Aiden Marsh. That shot was a rocket, if only it’d gone in! He didn’t look out of place.
I should add that the first half was largely poor and the same as recent weeks. Second half much better, but maybe that’s because Bournemouth were ahead and didn’t challenge us as much.
Fair assessment that. I thought the back 5 were all excellent - the only goal we conceded was a brain fart from Collins. We have to play Vita in front of Kitching moving forward.
We did better than i expected given the circumstances and probably had the better of the chances overall. We can complain about our lack of quality but today they battled well so no real complaints from me.
Only seen the goal. When I read the reports, I assumed we’d played a very high line and he just got beat when trying to sweep up. In the end, he was further forward than the back 3!
Only watched on TV but I agree with that we looked a lot better than we have in the majority of games. Sadly we are still trying to find positives in yet another defeat.
We looked far better when Benson came on. He looked very comfortable on the ball. With him and Kane in cenntral.midfield next season we might hold our own in Lg1.
Looking at the picture on BBC sport football, Billing is two and a half foot higher than Moon when he's heading what is presumably the goal. Not sure how Moon gets in any team.
Moon was caught on his heels, after going to the goal line trying to cover the Collins mistake. He should’ve done better, but also have to question where the two more senior centre halves were, as it would appear they were in no man’s land.
It’s a game of opinions but I could not disagree more. the result was expected but the performance wasn’t. we showed some fight and deserved at least a point against (let’s not forget) a team expecting to be in the league above next season. If we play like this for the rest of the season we’ll still go down but at least we’ll go down swinging. Which at this stage is the best that can be hoped for.
