I watched it too....

shame they didn't listen to those "experts" at first, who said it was a hoax...

Imagine, weren't their 3/4 additional people who got murdered because of the "diversion"...

    theres some nobs about

    My sympathies were with

.. the mother of the murdered student, who was obviously very close to her daughter.

Like she said, she was deprived of a daughter, a soulmate, grandchildren, and everything that went with that.

The pain and suffering was obvious in her face, as it would be with any of us.

The little maggot got what he deserved. His irresponsibility caused mayhem and misery.

    Eight years is not enough.

Yep... spot on buddy! 3 more ladies lost their life to that twit of man, Sutcliffe.

Of course, we can't say that the Ripper wouldn't have killed that many anyway nor was the Hoax anything but a waste of police time.

    Interesting that at the time:

    a) Oldfield wasn't convinced (it was his boss, Gregory, that acquired £1m of free advertising space) whom pushed him into the Weirside and Poster campaign ****!

    b) The Voice experts said it was ****** and to ignore it!

    c) The guy who created the f@cking things (John Humble) RANG and said it was an Hoax... yet they chose to ignore it!

    a+b+c = w.ank police work

8 years after all this time? hmmm.... they let all the IRA terrorists out after 18 months as part of the good friday agreement and they'd murdered 100s of people!!

agree, but their are 2 ways to look at it...

8 years, I think weren't enough, if the hoaxer didn't do it, they may have caught him earlier and avoided deaths.

He should at least be charged with some accessory to murder or whatever (3 times).

But like you said, **** police decisions also contributed, and the IRA thing aye...

I wouldn't like to have been the one giving the sentence, but nonetheless, geordie ******

    Yep, geordie lovely person!

There seems to be massive inconsistencies with sentencing and god knows how they even begin to come up with the right 'time' for this case?

3 life sentences running con-currently perhaps?
3 acts of involuntary manslaughter by diminished reponsibility perhaps?

I would say 3 life sentences...

irrespective of the lack of consistency...

his actions had a direct effect on the lives (or deaths) of 3 people whilst everyone was poncing around up geordie land.

Plus he had a face like an arse that wanted a right royle boot in it.

I think Judges should use that in their summing up

Sentencing the convicted man to 7 years in prison, Judge Ponsomby Smyth Tarquington Bennett said:

"your case is one of the most wicked I have had the misfortune to have come before me and your lack of remorse and a an obligation to protect the public means I have little choice other than to pass the maximum sentence, that and the fact that you have a face like an arse that wants a right royal boot in it"

He said he did it because he was unemployed and bored!

I think I was unemployed and bored at the same time as well but I didn't go around making hoax calls to the police!

I was surprised at the length of the sentence when you consider some of the cases recently that have got lesser sentences though.

If my memory serves me right the Police had Sutcliffe in for questioning 3 times and let him go.

How close did they want to get to him?

The Police made a lot of mistakes but they did not have DNA or computers to help them and didn't George Oldfield have a drink related problem?
