Firstly: Team Performance: 8/10. Every single player worked for each other and played his part. Colgan: 7 : I admit I was furious with him when he spilled the through-ball near the start. However, he immediately made an excellent save from Cureton. Should have punched the cross for the penalty but he made a mends. I think he was reasonably good. I'd rather see Flinders in there, but he was okay enough. He won't always get away with the mistake he made that somehow Cureton contrived to waste by kicking it straight at Kay. Tonge: 8 : Thought he was very good at fullback, and gets forward too. Linked up with Shuker, and he is going to be an excellent player. Carbon: 9 : (MOTM) Thought he was fantastic today. Solid as a rock, and the thing I notice is that he doesn't just hoof it or head aimlessly, he nods it or cushions it to the full back so we keep possession. If he stays fit, he'll be excellent. The problem is that he won't. Kay: 7 : The odd slack mistake, and should have done better with the through-ball that lead to Colgan's early error. However, he made a fantastic block and generally was solid. Austin: 7: Solid as ever. Doesn't quite offer as much going forward as Tonge, but we did look solid at the back. They barely had a chance after Robbie was sent off. Shuker: 7 : Ridiculous that he got Man of the match, but he was his usual self in terms of workrate. His crossing is still a letdown sometimes, took his goal really well. McPhail: 8 : I've always been a fan, but he was even better today. Worked very hard, controlled the game with Burns, had a go from range. Superb. Burns: 7 : Close to an 8, but just shaded by McPhail. Excellent workrate. Williams: 7 : Looked like a harsh red card on a good performance to me, but Ritchie says it was fair enough, so I must have been wrong. We will miss him. Hayes: 8 : Excellent first touch, clever player, and totally against what was said by Scnuthorpe fans, he worked hard. Took his goal very well, had a part in the second, and almost scored a stunning goal just after his first. Nardiello: 7 : He worked hard. Didn't look quite as sharp as he normally did. Poor penalty, but in general he linked up really well with Hayes. --- Wroe: 7 : Very good when he came on. I'm a critic of him, but he was very good. I was very impressed and I think he'll have sealed his place for Tuesday night. Conlon: not long enough to judge. Great performance for the first game, and has built up optimism. Bigger attendance than I expected too.
Aye... As usual I agree with most of that. Wondered what the hell they were on when I looked at the scoreboard and it said about 5000! I couldn't hear him announce it as I had my headphones on with our commentary.
