I believe that in this league you need at least one midfielder who breaks down the opposition play and basically puts in the hard graft. However, moving up a league I'd expect players like Mcphail and Howard would be a more effective partnership due to the championship being less physically demanding. In all fairness I wouldn't expect him to leave until the end of the season anyhow.
I agree with Varley If Burns can get himself fixed up with a club that will probably be playing Champions League football next season , good for him . It'd be a surprise if he left before the end of this season , but , even if he did , who's to say there aren't already plans afoot to bring in a more than adequate replacement ?
We can't sign anyone permanently though... It could only be a loan. They wouldn't be familiar with our players or how we play. Surely with the number of games we have left and the position we are in we shouldn't be letting one of our players go anywhere?????
It could create an opening To bring someone in until the end of the season . My hope is that he'd stay , but I don't expect to see the Four Horsemen Of The Apocolypse if he were to leave . I agree with Varley that Howard and McPhail would be better suited to life in the Championship , assuming we get there . Perhaps I can be accused of viewing this through rose - tinted glasses , but I don't believe the management would deliberately do anything to jeopardise the club's promotion ambitions .
RE: It could create an opening only thing that worries me is the timing of it all, it just doesn't make any sense unless somone is already lined up
Surely , the European Transfer Window Applies to Poland , as well ? Wouldn't Burns' transfer also be a loan ? It does seem however , somewhat bizarre to let one of our first team regulars leave at this time in the season . That is why I believe that plans will be in place for this. I do not believe , for a second , that Andy Ritchie is letting this situation develope without having any alternatives available .
I don't think the management team would deliberately do anything to jeopardise the club's promotion ambitions either. Far from it. However, I think it is conceivable that they could underestimate the value of Burns to the team. I also think it possible that Ritchie's obvious good nature and desire to keep his squad happy, a trait that has served the team very well thus far, may work against us in this instance. None of us want to hold back Jacob's career, but he signed a contract with us. We gave him a job and a wage when he wasn't getting other offers. Loyalty works both ways. If Burns is good enough then he'll be free to leave in the summer and move on to bigger things, but right now we need him at this club and we cannot afford to let him go. I hope our manager would explain that to him and I would hope Jacob would be professional enough to accept it, get on with it and work as hard as he has all year to help us win promotion.
