Came home last night happy with the fact that after one of the most turbulant weeks in the clubs history we had gained 3 very valuable points, to read on here that people would prefer pretty football and us losing and I could not believe what I was reading. First of all I really liked Ritchie, hoped he was here for the long haul, enjoyed the way we played football, hated the results we were getting, but as long as we were within touching distance of the other teams we were in with a chance of staying up. We realistically we were drifting and results and performances were getting worse week by week, and when AR came out with his comments about the board the writing was on the wall and it was only a matter of time before he left the club. Now I feel frustrated because someone is not telling us the truth, either there has been money and AR did not want to spend it ( which is a great shame because two or three players would have taken his side up another level and I think we could have survived quite comfortably) or AR is right and the board did not back him ( which is also a great shame because these guys are fans too and know what it took to get us into the championship, and i am sure they don't want us to return to League 1). I don't know which side is right or wrong, but either we have to move on. We have appointed Davey as our Caretaker manager (and I personally believe he will be appointed on a full time basis too) and looking at the mans qualifications and his thirst for knowledge ( travelling round Europe looking at other countries coaching techniques)he may just be the man for us, but only time will tell, but currently he is the manager of my football team. The team I have supported for 34 years and have followed to all parts of the country to see, and he will get my support whilever he his here. The man had to deal with 6 changes in personell and ity two training sessions prepare our team for one of the most important weeks in many seasons. He had to make some difficult decisions regarding team selection and many people were not happy with those selections, but we have to give the guy time. It was not pretty yesterday and there were not many chances but there were changes. We fought as a team from the first whistle till the last, when was the last time you can say that ? All for one and one for all yesterday ! and long may it continue. As for the new players they too need time to settle. I thought Wallwork was awfull in the first half but improved no end in the second and that crunching tackle late in the second half was awesome. McCann was playing out of position on the left wing and struggled a little with the pace of the game (something he too admitted to in an interview on oakwell 1575 after the game) but there were one or two encouraging touches and he followed in nicely at the death to get us the full three points. I reserve judgement on Knight but I was encouraged by what I saw. on a day when the strikers received little service his persistance to chase and harrangue defenders almost created a couple of chances and out of nothing and maybe should have had a penalty. Young reid is quick, very quick and could be a great asset if we harness his potential right. Yesterday was far from perfect but I think it was a promising start. If we are to stay in this then we have to work at his together, the BOARD, the MANAGER, the PLAYERS, and US, the FANS. If we don't all pull together then we will go down. We may go down anyway, but if we do then it must be fighting tooth and nail. As it was we were slowly drifting towards League 1, now starts the fight. So lets stop bickering amongst ourselves, Ritchie has gone !, Mcindoe has gone ! and anyone else who does not want to be part of this fight can go too, but I for one will give everything I can for the cause, howabout you ? sorry for the long post (england)
RE: Have you ever heard of no i deserve it. not even going to edit it im a big boy i stand by my mistakes.
yep, things are not perfect and not sure that board have handled this well but AR has left the club and things must go on. too early to make any jugdements about the way we will play without ritchie cos we have some new players and no manager. that said, three points on Saturday and 3 tomorrow will do nicely and if we play entertaining football that will be a bonus. if not, so what? its about survival. good post by the way.
so how does that work? AR is sacked and no one else has been appointed. Academy guy put in charge of first team affairs until club advertise, interview and appoint a replacement.
RE: so how does that work? Academy guy put in "temporary" charge and allowed to appoint an assistant - on a permanent basis as he's left another club to join us.
