get rid now, tell poya we'll pay you up to the end of the season and you can leave now or come in everyday and swing your feet but you're done. disco to run things until eos. get the new manager sorted now ( yup still banging the hannes wolfe drum) ask him who he wants to keep, who he wants shut of, and who he wants in, tell him what his budget is + any money made on player sales, and makesure we play at 900mph high press. AND DONT TIT ABOUT PLAYING GOAL KICKS IN THE AREA
I can tell him his budget before player sales: zero. And after £5 million of player sales: still zero. We're going to have to sell everything that isn't nailed down before he sees a transfer kitty.
I get the sentiment but we don’t know the terms of the contract or the break clause. If getting shut now costs us compo, and waiting until we’re relegated doesn’t, then it would be mad to sack him, wouldn’t it? Any compo wouldn’t come from the owners, it would come from club coffers. Which is money away from player budget. Shooting ourselves in the foot. Obviously I’ve got no idea what the contract is, but I’m guessing if we get shut before the break clause, it’s a sacking and compo kicks in. With us already resigned to relegation, would seem crackers paying him off now, if he leaves for nowt in a month’s time
Exactly Marc. And the players aren't going to suddenly start churning out wins under Devaney or similar. Theyve given up.
My thoughts on it is we should have got shut games ago . Players not interested is bad coaching/ management as well as player attitudes imo . Don’t know whether we’d have got the wins with a new/ replacement coach but we sure weren’t getting them under Poya . Even three four games ago could have made a difference , the Sheffield Utd game after we’d conceded was shameful from the players and he’d have gone then for me . Who knows what results would have been we may have held on to for wins v Fulham and Reading and our position would have been so very different the way results have gone . Keeping hold of him while his contract allows us to get rid in a favourable financial settlement is stupid if that’s what’s happened as we could have maybe stayed up or at least had a chance , Instead we’re accepting the inevitable to save on a few hundred thousand quid that could cost us millions .
We don’t need to activate the break clause early. Can just put him on gardening leave until relegation is mathematically confirmed which I assume is the break point.
Yes budget, like money we wasted on Thomas , Oulare , Benson etc etc , the list is endless , We have wasted shed loads of brass, the trick is to get somebody to spend it a bit more wisely , I know you are not going to get every deal right but blooming heck we have spurned a lot of cash .
You are spot on & to be honest they could have employed someone short term & moved Poya to the under 23"s or even assistant in order to cut any compensation , I think we missed a trick not asking Val to come back when West Brom let go, but that ship has sailed.
Similar to what Loko said elsewhere, if we don't have a budget we keep all our players, or we sell every first team player and play this years U23s, which won't happen because they won't have significant 'market value.' The budget will be available when the fire sale has occurred.
But the current squad doesn't have any value either, and what little we would get from a fire sale wouldn't plug the operating funding gap and create money for new players... It probably wouldn't even come remotely close to plugging the gap alone. Our players are, for all intents and purposes, worthless. In my opinion of course. I'm feeling really defeatist about the whole situation at the minute, I can't see how we exit this season in any way other than royally fu cked.
I think Styles and Helik as internationals will bring some money in. I also think Collins, Cauley, Anderson and Morris will too. I wouldn't like to see any of them go but obviously it will be necessary. I think most teams will look at the last two seasons and put the failure of this season down to two incredibly inept managers. They can look at last season and see the quality. A couple of million each will probably be seen as a bargain by teams with the money to buy, and our owners will snap their fingers off.
I think the bids are already on the table for the players that are going to be sold, and once our impending relegation is confirmed, we’ll start to see more ‘ stories’ re this. Whatever we may all think of our players, I believe that we have perhaps about 5 that would be targeted by Championship clubs. I don’t buy this contention that we’ll struggle in L1 next season simply because of what’s happened this season, there will be many more variables including coaching staff, player recruitment and players staying to factor in. No predictions from me other than I’m not going down the ‘woe is us’ route. Even though I don’t like L1,I always look forward to the new season whatever League we’re in. I’m not a ‘happy clapper’ and I fully understand the range of emotions that this season has generated, I am well peed off with what’s happened this season especially as it’s been self-inflicted both on and off the pitch. Even though our relegation is just around the corner, when it arrives I’ll be as sick as a parrot. For all of it’s failings (largely by the EFL) I love the Championship and am at my happiest when we are at least ‘competing’ at that level.
I am sure they will have, otherwise they will have problems paying players & staff etc wages ,but the income forecast will be well down & it will follow suit that the projected budget will be a lot lower than this season but surely the key has to be that what ever the budget is it has to be managed better .
Exactly. Poya can still be ‘head coach’. But just have somebody else take training, pick the team and decide on tactics, substitutions etc…
