First of all the support was terrific, filled the stand and there were people without seats so it might have been over capacity. Great support on a Tuesday night although cheap prices help. Didn't get the booing of O'Brien, always put 100% in for us and hasn't said a bad word against us, players come and go that's football. First half I thought we were *****, this is not me getting on their backs but we were totally overrun in midfield and were lucky not to go in behind. It is to be expected with a new team but it's great to see a team that's clearly got some spirit in them to keep coming from behind. I thought the second goal was particularly impressive in that we conceded a minute before half time and still remained positive enough to force a throw in and corner straight away to get back into it. Second half we started slowly and Davies made a couple of good saves then we really got into the game and took control of it. Thought Dudgeon was superb down the left and got forward time and time again. Cole looks a talent, he's unbelievably quick and has plenty of skill, reminds me very much of Vaz Te. Overall, thought we deserved a point against a decent team who will probably be towards the top of the table this season. A point is always good away from home and there's plenty of potential in the team so hopefully when they play more together we'll continue to improve. Onwards and upwards, youreds.
Summed up very well. There were a few dodgy moments in the last 10 minutes too. Craines block was outstanding.
Agreed, excellent support! I think the 883 away fans quoted was a low estimate to cover their backs after overfilling. I didn't understand that either, like you say players come and players go. Unless you then go on to smash someones skull or bad mouth the club, leave them to it. However, did anyone else notice/hear O'Brien mouth something to the away end when they scored their second goal? I'm sure I heard something along the lines of f*****g w*****s along with whatever else he said?? Could have been the Scottish accent though I suppose?
Agree with all of this. After 25 Mins I would say they deserved to win, played good football and we gave the ball away far too much centre mid, right back and from goal kicks. Last 25 mins we were fully on top and created more goalmouth action. Overall I think a draw was an fair result and one most Cov fans are happy with too. I like the spirit in the team and we look ok going forward. We have a lot of work to do defending set pieces though and if Davies remains in goal who stays too much on his line from set pieces for me, we may need to find a way to get MVoto in there. Dudgeon was great but I hope we can extend his loan or ideally permanent as I fear where that position will be filled otherwise.
No there were quite a few single empty seats not taken - one next to me one slightly in front and one behind for starters and I expect that was repeated in quite a few places so I think the 883 was about right if the capacity is approx 950. They cant really hide how many tickets are sold and wont have sold more than the 250 promised on the day - sounds like we sold 200 of them though so thats a great effort
Overall we were ok, but my biggest criticisms of last night are about the formation we played, how we failed to do anything to stop wave after wave of crosses in to the box, and how many passengers we had. You Could have taken Berry, Treacy, Lita and Winnall off and not noticed (other than the obvious lack of players on the pitch). In the second half Wilson did nothing to stop Coventry pinging it out to their ginger left winger, who thankfully only found one good cross in the 10+ opportunities he had. Time and time again he was left completely on his own hanging the touchline. Width is our biggest problem. We don't have any, so everything goes down the middle to two strikers who don't like the ball played down the middle with their backs to goal. Devante Cole changed this as his pace was allowing him to get in behind.
Thought we were rubbish first half, berry and brown struggled down the right, winall and lita were not surprisingly out muscled by there 2 giant centre halfs. No width and no real threat. Second half despite some defensive scares we looked better especially with a pacy striker and balls into the channels My main concern was how easy our centre halfs were beaten to every header and every ball into the box, powder puff and lightweight, similar to our strikers! However we don't actually need a target man we need to play to our strikers strengths Hourihane man of the match by a mile
Thought Dudgeon matched Hourihane when you take in to account we decided to play without a left midfielder for 70 minutes. Hourihane was our best midfielder by a mile, but that says more about the performance of the other three than his own.
Anyone booing JOB is a fecking wink=er full stop. That man gave 110% every game for BFC. If it wasn't good enough fair enough, shut the **** up & grow a pair of balls yourself.
Fair enough. Still can't understand why the majority decided to boo and abuse him? Near where I sat it seemed to be a select few with their mates joining in just to sing along. Does this mean all ex-reds will be getting this treatment when we play against them? Seen as O'Brien gave 100% when he played I'd hate to see what the likes of Kennedy and Wiseman get.
