Just got back from Birmingham and not read any opinions yet but here's what I thought of the game. First half I thought we were shocking, the defence were all over the place again. Cranie in particular had a nightmare at right back, he seemed to want to play either centre half or centre midfield half of the game. The rest of the back 4 weren't much better which was proved by another soft goal to concede. The cross wasn't properly blocked by Cranie, M'Voto missed it at the front post and Ramage didn't mark Zigic. Kennedy was just typical Kennedy, proper ****. Midfield was very pedestrian and although we got possession well we didn't seem to push forward and attack like we could have. O'Grady did his best but it's hard when no there's no one within 30 yards of him. Despite this we created the best of the chances and should have at least been level. Shea looked lively but missed a couple of good chances. Second half, we looked far better defensively but we didn't create as much. Mellis' goal was a cracker, a free kick from about 25 yards which curled into the top bag. Great finish. I must admit I was really disappointed with the way we approached the game, we just sat back and invited pressure when they really were there for the taking. Overall I am happy with an away point but it was a game between two very poor teams and they were there for the taking and we could've had 3 points had we gone for it. We really need to improve because a better team would have beat us easily today.
So just another day on Planet Barnsley then!. Play one good half, one bad half. Players out of position. Chances missed. Opposition there for the taking - how many times is that, this season?? Happy with the point though - one of those games that could easily have been lost and any point away from home is a good point.
Surely a bit harsh to say shocking. Thought we started okay and then they got that goal and had a good 10/15 when they were on top. Thought Barnsley kept going and created a few shooting opportunities and could have scored.
Just got back too, have to say if we can't beat teams as bad as Birmingham (yes they were appalling) we're just not gunna stay up I'm afraid. Cranie was all over the place at right back, M'Voto and Ramage just looked like an accident waiting to happen and struggled. Kennedy was as per usual. I have to say I thought Dawson was class today in midfield I can't recall one mistake, Jim ran his socks off, new lad Shea looked like he has potential, we just need some pace URGENTLY so we have a threat on the counter if we're gunna sit back...decent point I suppose
Got to say the guys on player were a lot more positive about the game. Good point though considering how poor our form is & how good there's is, just got to take advantage of our home games now Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
It did take a deflection, but it didn't really affect the direction of the ball much I don't think. Plus there was more than enough time for one of the centre backs to put it into the stand.
Bit overly negative I thought we showed some signs of developing as a team. We lacked inventiveness but did ok against a team on a decent run.
