A decision like this was always going to split opinion - personally I'm finding it quite hard to disagree with it but I do understand the argument for keeping him. The argument I'm not having is that we are developing a young team. The team on Tuesday night probably had Scowen & Lalkovic that you could argue was being developed for our benefit. The defensive unit is experienced, you gain no development from playing Hourihane as a left winger, Hemmings will never ever be good enough or have the desire to be good enough, and Waring/Pearson are being developed for other clubs. The fact is that I find it really hard to say that Wilson was developing our young players. Playing them for 2 games and then dropping them every time they make an error is not developing them. I imagine Rose, RNL, Digby, Abbott, Oates, Smith would have a hard time to say that their reputations are/were being enhanced or developing as they never get a run of more than 2/3 games to do so, or were pushed out the door for other teams loanees. Bree (injury) and Holgate are probably the only 2 you could argue have developed - but even Holgate hasn't got back in the side after making 1 error at Doncaster. With how he was playing, surely he goes back in if he's being developed? I am extremely frustrated with the fact we're in the same position that we seem to be in every year - looking for a manager to try and 'build'. I'd have liked to think we wouldn't do that but I do struggle to see what vision we were working to under Danny & what the long term plan was. Sticking with a manager isn't that much use if it's the wrong one. Maybe it was too early to make that call - I wouldn't have wanted to be the one to make it - but I don't think Danny can really have that many complaints. The fearless manager we had back in 1996/97 wasn't there anymore - and talking up every team we play against as if they're Barcelona isn't really something that I want to hear. I can't think of a single game off the top of my head that Danny changed for the positive with a tactical switch or a substitution. A lot of the players he brought in seem to have been discarded already. Losing Winnall was a huge blow but I'm not sure we should be in a position where losing 1 striker cripples us as an attacking entity. Would things have changed with more time? We don't know. Will things improve with a new manager? We don't know. I wish we did. What I will say is that I can understand the decision and don't think Danny can have too many complaints. I don't expect everyone to agree - I completely appreciate the arguments about continuity and stability, and I do understand some of the loyalty to Danny from the past - but I think some of the vitriol being aimed at the board is in ignorance of watching us punt the ball forward at an 18 year old striker that doesn't even belong to us. That's not something I want to watch. I wish Danny every success moving forward - and hope the club can now find someone to start that development with. Do I trust them to get the appointment right? Evidence suggests not. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I don't come on here to read calm sensible dispassionate reasoned comments you're bringing the board into disrepute.
I agree with that. Of course there's some frustration around at the moment but we haven't half been dogga this past year. I trust the board to make an informed decision and if they'd seen enough then that's it.
Top post! Danny's previous record with us clearly bode him some time, unfortunately he didn't use that time wisely and here we are. Like i said earlier, huge weight lifted, but still feeling disappointed that we are back to square one.
I'd add that I have seen some people celebrating this decision and this situation. It's nothing to celebrate and there is no joy in this. It's another disaster in a long line of disasters and while I don't think Wilson can have many complaints with his record since he took over, I'm deeply sorry that we're in this position again.
