I don't post on here much but I'd just like to post some perspective after our first 4 games. At 5pm on the 6th August, we were talking about "progress", "resilience", "top half finish" and even "play-offs". Less than 2 weeks later, we are League One fodder without a clue. Ok, I appreciate our last 3 home games have been piss poor but 4 games does not a season make. Southampton and Middlesborough have been two very very good teams. I don't know how much of that has been down to their good play or us making them look good but both were impressive. Southampton have had a squad of players that have been together for 2/3 years that are used to winning, even Ipswich and Leeds will tell you that. Boro have a manager who has experience of getting promoted out of this League and the bulk of their squad have had a full season or more together. Us on the other hand are still getting to know each other and I believe the understanding will come....eventually. But the minority of fans won't give them the chance. It hurts when the opposition fans chant "Your support is ******* ****" because, lets face it, it is. This, however, is no reflection on our away support, but at home, we sit on our hands and wait to be entertained. Even when we scored the first goal last night, we could barely muster a song. No wonder the players feel inhibited. That is no excuse on the players but if you take into account the last 5 mins of the Sothampton match when our fans finally awoke, we actually looked like scoring. Coincidence? I'm not going to say we are going to get relegated because I still think there are 3 worse teams than us in this division. I appreciate how Hill wants to play but we need players with confidence to do it. I think we will sneak some results in our upcoming away games where the players are away from the negativity of Oakwell. I have my opinions on who should start and what system we should play but it's not going to make any difference. All we can do as fans is support our club. No matter what the team is or who the manager is. Booing isn't the answer, "Keith Hill's Red And White Army" is.
The negativity starts with the manager who picks a side to draw. I just don't buy all this its the fans fault crap. The fans awoke against Southampton because the players suddenly started to attack them! Last night there was encouragement even after their second goal but Hill sat on his hands at half time, and waited until there was barely 15 minutes left to go to two strikers, when we needed two goal just to equalise!
Barnsley Fans I was in the Ponty on saturday and tried on several occasions to get some singing going, all to no avail. People just looked at me like I had 2 heads. It was embarrassing.
