A few random thoughts on the game - I was actually standing in the home end as I was with an old mate from Uni who's a Brentford fan.
First of all, I thought they absolutely annihilated us for the first hour and they could have been well out of sight by half time. They created plenty of channces and totally dominated midfield. Sometimes I think Howard is OK and sometimes not, but there's no doubt that away from home Burns provided far superior cover and bite in midfield, even though Howard is arguably better on the ball. Burns sale without replacing him with proper cover could yet prove very expensive.
After they gifted us the goal we were well on top and had all the possession. They were definitely rocking but although we applied a lot of pressure we didn't really have enough quality to craft any good chances. I never really felt that we'd get an equaliser although their fans were very nervous.
As for the referee, I thought he was atrocious all aftrenoon and couldn't wait to give them free kicks every time. The incident with Tommy Wright was at the far end from me but it certainly looked like he got clattered by the keeper, and I'm not exaggerating when I say that the penalty decision for them genuinely provoked disbelieving laughter from most of the Brentford fans. I thought the referee was officious, eager to blow and I hope he's extremely embarrassed when he sees the penalty decision again.
Oh, and a quick word on the Brentford fans - if you think mindlessly singing Hale and Pace songs from the 1980's again and again constitutes comedy then I suggest you deserved to be drybummed all the way to Putney.

RE: Hale and Pace They knew how to laugh at Narvern Mankees though, didn't they.
The bummers.

What songs were they? I recall seeing a sketch Hale and Pace did about "northerners" which was painfully unfunny....neevr watched them since.
RE: What songs were they? "I go out, I have ten pints, i get completely plastered
Then I go home and beat the wife, 'cos I'm a Northern b.a.stard"
I hope everyone who sung it gets roundly loved.
