the vast majority of teachers I've had the "pleasure" of dealing with over the years all have the same M.O. recite from a book, pass out tests, mark them right or wrong, hand them back with no explaination as to what was incorrect or why so no real learning takes place. Won't call parents when a problem is occuring just make a note and rip the parents a new asshole when it's conference time. then complain to me about the hours they put in when it's been less than the hours I put in and they make more money. then have the gall to put up a fuss when competency testing is suggested for teachers. not grade them or the school on the results of the students but testing the teachers on their proficiency on the subjects they teach. the very few I have dealt with who are not in that mold are angels. They treat each child like they were their own. have no problem calling parents when there is a problem, being proactive to catch the problem and make the correction make sense to the child and actually teach the subject(s) they have to teach. make it interesting and informative and if the child gets something wrong, explains it to them. and all taught with a thundering velvet hand. they kids new where the line was and when it was crossed the punishment was known and held to. now THAT is a teacher...
So, if they make more money than you, for less hours, and you seem to have the profession, and the problems that go with it all sorted, how come you're not a teacher yourself ?
didn't go to school and get the certificate. to be honest, not interested in teaching. I like what I do and wasn't complaining. It just galls me that those who do it, complain about the hours, about the working conditions and about the pay but can't be arsed to to anything about it. I've actually made the changes to get the job I have and I love it and I to it better than most. If the work is that hard for the teachers, they can get employment elsewhere. They need to understand that they are a large part of forming the minds of our children. If the hours and the working conditions are too much then move on.
Your attitude is typical of many people I know. If you don't like the job move on,instead of staying and fighting for better conditions. I did just as you suggested I moved on and have not regreted it. Teaching today is a bloody horrible job, far worse that being a diesel mechanic up to your neck in dirty oil and grease all day, and I did both jobs for 17 years. If everyone did as I did there would be no one left to do any teaching.
CGLI Full Technological Certificate in Automobile Engineering

PGCE BSc Hons BA Hons Hope that answered the question with out sounding big headed?
Don't worry... They are a dying breed and an endangered species. If you have kids who will be at school in ten years' time, they will be mostly taught by Classroom Assistants with no professional qualification and will have a head teacher who manages four schools and is seldom seen in any of them and earns more than any other teacher. That will be nice, won't it? Problem sorted. No teachers left!
my view of teachers is that we're taking this far too seriously. there are some good and bad just like in any walk of life. unfortunately people's bad experiences really affect their judgement on things. just like how my mate calls all reds fans racist cos he came to see us v bristol city 3 yrs ago and a section of the ponte racially abused onoura
RE: my view of teachers is sense at last!! were the fook you been . you add a lot to this board ..(Y) can i be your stalker ?? i were nutkins but he's blown me out ! (furious) oh well love normally flies one way ....:-|
the problem is my attitude comes from those who will neither work to change conditions nor care about their job or the kids. Those that I have known and either or both have gotten my full support in both the classroom and at home. It's those that want the parents to do their job for them, i.e. discipline the kids for things done in the classroom weeks after the incident when the teacher has time to lecture each parent on how awful their child is or those that do blooming all in class and send tons of homework home for the parents to help the kids with.
I'm not a teacher so don't have a particular axe to grind about the subject. Just one question though how many people who log on to this board whilst at work and by the look of at spend all day at work on this board think teachers are the laziest profession?
RE: the problem is The parents.. You have answered it yourself. Unfortunately some kids can be evil lying little turds and they will always blame the teachers and because mummy and daddy think the sweet little thing is Little Lord Fauntlroy they blame the teachers. There is a clue in the job title it doesn't say Police Officer, Counsellor, Social Worker but teacher. I spent a few years doing detached youth work and i can tell you there are many kids in this Borough who spend everynight on street corners drinking and getting up to anti social behaviour, there parens seeming disinterested in what they get up to as long they aren't under their feet. Sorry but the buck stops with the parents.
