Barnsley FC will be happy as they've sold all their tickets. They even gave priority to their season ticket holders to keep them sweet. I guess they'll see the venture as a success. However, demand exceeded supply, so some people were bound to miss out. Unfortunately, some of those that missed out were regular supporters who attend most weeks but don't have a season ticket. BFC made no provision for such supporters. I would estimate there are about 3,000 or so such Barnsley fans. Do the club care about this section of fans? I suppose that depends on their actions in future. If they continue to alienate them, they do so at their own peril. Such fans are as much the life blood of the club as season ticket holders. In future priority has got to be given to these before general sale, be that in the form of ticket stubs or a computerised loyalty card system where points are awarded for matches attended. I personally believe the sooner the latter proposition is implemented the better, along with an on-line ticketing system. If we want to be a successful club and take part in big games then we've got give the fans a better way of buying tickets that doesn't require us queueing up at four in the morning in order to secure a seat.
i am sure the few seasons after the prem season. we had such a system. from the length of time you had held a season ticket - ticket stubbs - general sale does any one still have a program with this info in cos i'm positive i haven't dreamt it
The info got lost somehow During the admin period. I asked pretty much the same question during the Liverpool ticketing fiasco.
Correct we did, in fact didn't we have it in the prem too? I remember been in category 4 as the premier season was my first as a season ticket holder when I was 14. To reward loyalty it went like this: category 1 = centenary member and season ticket holder for two years or more category 2 = season ticket holder for 2 years or more category 3 = centenry member and season ticket holder category 4 = season ticket holder category 5 = 8 ticket stubs etc. etc. etc.
RE: The info got lost somehow they could still have kept the same system, and just started again from the date they realised it was lost, surley 2,3 or 4 years of info is better than none
Dunno mate But believe me, I'm well narked that the info has been lost as I was in Category 1 for priority!
Yes we did It's why I managed to get to a few away games in the Premier as I was virtually guaranteed a ticket, but I ended up being Billy No Mates as my mate, who'd had a season ticket for years, didn't have one in the Promotion Season so he dropped back down the categories.
I understand the club are looking at a swipe card scheme, similar to the one used by Sheffield Utd. When you get a season ticket, you get so many points on the card, when you by tickets [home and away], you get more points. If they did adopt this, I am sure it would sort out a lot of the problems from this season.
Have to agree. Should have been a priority system based on ticket stubs before going on general sale. 2 tickets per season ticket holder? Didn't learn too much from the Liverpool fiasco then. Plus they should have been open outside normal office hours. Mind you, this would have increased the costs of selling the tickets, so was that the reason?
There would still be complaints if it was an online ticket system, taking into account loyalty, categories, shares, years of service and star signs, there would still be people moaning on here. the club will never EVER please a section of Barnsley fans cos they live to complain and moan and whinge. not enough radio coverage this, not enough programme notes that, its too expensive, the phones engaged, blah blah blah.
Great idea It could even be Tesco style! you gain points for every £1 you put into the club. So if you buy a shirt you get 40 points. Attending a £20 game would give you more points than a £10 game. This way those fans that buy away tickets every week would be even higher up the food chain (above cent members). Each time there is a 'big' game the club looks at the points list and decides the cut off for priority sales. There could even be an award for the most loyle fan i.e. the one thats put the most money into the club each season. Presented at last home game. It would be great to see how much money people have put into the club (PC tells everyone!), I know how much I've spent at Tesco over the last few years and I'm sure some of you lot have given more to BFC in the same time! Yes it would take some organising, but anyone with half a ounce of IT ability would be able to run it.
No I think the club should and will continue to improve things. investment will be made in the ticketing process, but despite their best efforts, they will continue to be criticised. lets face it, when are they ever given any credit or praise on here? a game gets moved to Friday night, they put on free coaches. a **** up is made for an away Cup game, they get better organised for the next round. still there are complaints. its a one way street. is there any wonder the people behind the scenes are sensitive to criticism when thats basically all they hear? If I were the office manager, I wouldnt stand for any of the ***** that gets spouted on here. queue up or f-u.c.k off.
hang on they moved the game to friday night - **** up patrick cryne then laid on some coaches, basically to say sorry - great move by PC 2 per season ticket holder for liverpool - **** up 2 per season ticket holder for chelsea - **** up
where exactly is the improvement or change and better organisation? All i can see is the same mistake made for the chelsea match as was made for the liverpool match and a PR disaster in the last three rounds

The club must have an existing database of some sort. Whenever I ring to order tickets, they ask if I have attended previos games, ask my postcode and involuntarily read all my history back to me !
Can't they build on that ? At the very least ?

Of course thats all you see thats all you see on everything. you're the three times Olympic Gold Medal Winning Whinger of Barnsley Town. you wouldnt see the length of time season ticket holders had as a benefit. you wont admit that the idea of getting a raffle ticket then going back when told as a decent idea. you would never admit that selling our allocation almost a week ahead of the game is an achievement. no, its all a **** up, a PR disaster, it'll mean even less people going, blah blah blah. for christ sake do us a favour and get to Boots and buy some St Johns Wart and a SAD lamp.
RE: hang on Chelsea and Liverpool are different. Liverpool - 2 per ST when you have 6,000 tickets and more than that number of season ticket holders is a **** up. Chelsea - 2 per ST when you have 16,000 tickets and far less than half that number of season ticket holders, a way of distributing tickets quickly. And plenty of ST holders didn't use their full allocation, I know amongst the 5 of us that go - none of us did.
