My views for what there worth is that i thought we played ok, dominated first half midfield bossed the game, second half started ok they came back out and upped the workrate, Odejayi miss killed us whole team just dropped. Up untill the last 20 minutes thought we passed the ball well. Thought we deserved more to be honest don't really understand how so many people are saying it was a terrible performance though, Steele - 7 nervous, poor kicking, still did ok Van Homoet - 7 Did ok, gave the ball away cheaply at times though. Foster - 9 - Outstanding throughout Souza - 8 Defended well but some nervy moments Kozluk - 7 Solid JCR - 7 Did well on the ball with out threatening too much, still played well though. Hassel - 8 Brilliant, solid all day, rarely gave it away even did well when he was pushig up towards the end. Howard - 9 Superb, never gives it away, everything came though him, gives 100% everytime, ( not a chance we'll keep him in the summer) Devaney - 7 did well defensively, He's never going to be the sort of player that beats man after man but does well to get it over, just need somebody running on which ferenczi and Ode are never going to. Ferenczi - 6 probably the worst performer but never stops running. odejayi - 7 Other than 'that' unforgivable miss thought he did ok won everything in the air. Another 2 midfielders needed one wide player and somebody else to replace Howard. 2 strikers, Proven goal scorer + Quick young lad to gamble on. Odejayi as much he tries is never going to be good enough at this level at times he looks frightening when he runs at defenders but owt else but there's no instinct to his play, never finds the right positions, never even looks like scoring half the time. We need to get behind them now! COME ON YOU REDS! Oh and the large majority of Cardiff fans are idiots!
To be fair I wouldn’t disagree too much. Don't think Howard deserves a 9 but he showed some moments of genius and to play with stitches in his ankle in the 2nd half he's either stupid or brave. Saying that I don't think he had much choice looking at the bench! Watched the game again on TV today and I thought Foster should have collected the Man of the match award. Mr consistent again was superb. Steele - 6 Very poor Kicking. I did wonder if he was carrying an injury as his dead kicks were very short. Van Homoet - 7 I thought he looked composed and quick. Some good crosses too Foster - 9 Fantastic game. I think he only lost one header all game. Souza - 8 Sometimes his distribution let him down. Seemed to nullify JFH with ease. Kozluk - 7 Reasonably solid. One or two rash challenges though JCR - 7 Flattered to deceive. Looked good with little or no end product. Often double teamed. Hassel - 8 Bobby seems to be acclimatizing to playing in midfield. Some unusually good passing from him. Howard - 7 Floated in and out of the game too much for me. Caught tiring to do too much at times Devaney - 6 Some good crosses. Got caught ball watching and lost his man for the goal. Ferenczi - 6 Started brightly with some good hold up play. Seemed to tire after the knock at the end of the 1st half. Odejayi - 6 Should have scored. Worked hard in patches. Seemed to give up too easily in others. Coulson - 5 Shouldn't really have been on the bench let alone on the pitch. Looked lost when he came on. Leon - 6 Some neat and tidy touches and a couple of blocked shots. Butterfield - 5 Pointless substitution apart from some fresh legs on the left. Weak bench cost us dear. No real options to change the formation into a more potent attacking force. Poor management in my opinion. The Odejayi miss knocked the stuffing out of him. It's criminal for a striker in that position not to force the keeper into a save. It spelt the end of Barnsley as a threat really. Dean Dean
Funny about Foster In that although he was good overall, he made two uncharacteristic errors, one of which required a great save from Steele.
It's generally funny about Souza too. He's fecking awful, truely he is. Makes mistakes in every game, most of the time at least 1 costs us, he can't kick either. You watch him, he has no right foot, and cant use the inside of his left peg, watch how many times he needlessly kicks the ball out of play. Another one who started so brightly, and fades.
RE: Funny about Foster Yeah I remember that. He made up for it slightly by pushing the guy a bit wide. Good save by Steele all the same. Still think Foster still deserved the Man of the match. Considering Ledley hardly got into the last 3rd of the field in the 1st (apart from the goal which had a hint of good fortune about it) Where as Foster was involved throughout the game! I personally thought if anyone from Cardiff should have got it Rae was the man. I thought he was the kind of player our midfield has lacked most of the season. Dean
The match basically summed up our season. As a game overall we played quite well but at important times in defence and attack we messed things up which meant we conceded and didn't score.
The lack of movement Is really worrying. I think the team is reasonably solid until it gets to the front. The amount of times Howard picks up the ball and there is no forward player moving, they seem to stand and look. Its the same when we break, JCR and Devaney copme out with the ball and there is nobody making a run for a through ball to be slipped through. We had more posession and domination in the first half but Dave Jones sorted out aerial threat at half-time and we were lost for ideas.
Howard - superb, never gives it away? must have been a different Howard i was watching, not a good game he had by a long way.
Thought Sousa was poor personally Distribution was awful and he needs to play with his brian more. You can't come through people to win everything, sometimes you need to read the game. Foster got us out of trouble a lot of times and was one of our best players, although he nearly cost us a goal when he miscontrolled it and Steele saved from Gavin Rae
My first response on this site. Totally agree with the message particularly relating to Foster. He had a absolutely awesome game, won header after header and tackle after tackle and his reading of the game was amazing throughout. Wonder how much he is worth now compared to the £100,000 we stole him for and should we prepare ourselves for the fact that he might not be with us next season as surely one of the big clubs will be interested in him.
Good first post mate, completely agree. My mates a Burnley fan and he laughed at us when we signed him...not anymore!!
... souza gave it away an awful lot, no matter how well he defended, its a possession game... and odejayi, fluffed THE chance and kept falling over like he was on ice, and people say they played well?!
Much appreciated ark. Understand he had quite a rough time at Burnley. Must be our player of the season.
He would be mine. Fair play to Davey in terms of plucking players who have struggled elsewhere because WBA and Southend mocked Steele and JCR and they've all done well
