You may not all agree but I reckon McGoldrick & Adebola (if he signs, in talks) is an awsome prospect and one I would have loved to have seen wearing the Red of Barnsley. Both players have great work ethic, physical presence and can finish.

In my opinion our main problem up front was lack the lack of physical presence and not just poor finishing. Far to often last season we were to lightweight up front, our forwards were bullied by opposing centre halves and as a result failed to make their mark in the game. We pose little threat from corners/set peices and I can't remember the last headed goal scored by one of our strikers?
Thats not to say that they were ALL poor, more that the partnerships did not work. I do not think some people appreciated the role Stan played for us during his time here, his work rate and presence was cleary missed last season. Macken tried his hardest to fill the void but doesn't have the size or strength to make an impact and bully defenders as Stan often did. The only real candidate for this role is KO but he has failed to impress or hold down a first team place (perhaps now is time to move on).

I would love to see us sign someone a finisher e.g. Billy Sharp, but feel they would struggle unless we brought in a player with some presence ideally who can finish e.g. L.Becchio or J.Beckford (Leeds), R.Lambert (B.Rovers), D.Graham (Carlisle), M.Sagnowski or G.Rasiak (Southampton)

    Any thoughts......?

To be honest i said that last season about Forest when they signed Earnshaw and were rumored to be after another proven striker (can't remeber who), and then it didn't really work ut for em

I felt we've always lacked a physical presence

We always look smaller and weaker than the opposition

Definitely agree mate. It's just unfortunate that Odd job can't finish because he has simply all the other attributes IMO and would fit the bill perfectly.

If i was a centre half i would rather play against Macken than OJ. Macken is the only striker who has played most games over the past 2 seasons, yet during this time we have never had a good partnership, it cant all be the fault of whoever has played at the side of him, in my opinion Macken should be on the bench and made to fight for his place.

Adebola won't get in B4 Earnshaw

Maybe Earnshaw is on the move?

Adebola & Earnshaw are very different players..... depends on tactics i.e. pace or ariel threat....

If its ariel battles they need to win Adebola gets the nod at 5ft nowt earnshaw won't be effective........ if its pace your after then he's your man

    Adebola, McGoldrick, Earnshaw, Tyson, Garner...

Then look at our Strikers and see who's gonna score the most goals!

That's the area we really need to invest in, GK, Defence and Midfield are more or less all sound for me- the same can't be said for the Striker sitation.

Macken, KO, Boggy, Hume, Coulson, RNL & Adam...... Definately needs work! not looking good on paper.

On paper we look in experienced and very lightweight..... IMO two players who aren't up to it at this level i.e. KO & Macken, 2x inexperienced youngsters, 2x players coming back from long term injuries..... IMO leaving us with only one championship quality striker with experience playing at this level..... harsh perhaps but true!

MACKEN works hard but doesn't score enough goals and only has one decent game every three.

KO plain and simply cannot cut it at this level.

HUME is definately was championship quality, can he make it back from his injury and make and instant impact I certainly hope so.

RNL & ADAM are both talented youngsters but will SD throw them in the deep end? & can they perform consistently?

COULSON was promising youngster but has been dogged with injurys the past few seasons, I wonder if he can make it back into first team with fresh group of youngsters pushing for a place. I hope he can make it, but not convinced.

Finally BOGGY, he is a natural finisher who can score goals at this level but the one thing he lacks is physical presence.....

what is wrong with Hume. He was just getting going when he got injured. RNl and adam are god 30 min players too with macken and bogo as cover for hume and another striker. Lambert/ or who ever i dont no what people are panicking about. I would have hume or bogo over adebola, tyson any day.

IMO comparisons Mcgoldrick or Macken, Adebola or KO, Earnshaw or Boggy, Garner or Hume, Tyson or RNL

Don't think you can comapre target men i.e. Adebola, against pacey forward e.g. Hume..... players who bring different skills to the field/team.

IMO a fair comparison between us and them would be as follwows:

    1. THE ALROUNDER (hardworking forward to chip in with a few goals)
Mcgoldrick or Macken = McGoldrick IMO hands down

    2. TARGET MAN
Adebola or KO = Adebola IMO, strength, experience, works hard for the team and has an eye for goal

    3. EXPERIENCED FINISHER
Earnshaw or Boggy = Boggy IMO, age on his side and Earnshaw has been dogged by injuries in recent years.

    4. INJURY COMEBACK KIDS
Garner or Hume = a tie, both are quality at this level but who will make it back to their best?

    5. PACEY FORWARD
Tyson or RNL = another tie, RNL is hot prsopect and is unproven vs Tyson potential let down by his inconsistency.

Laughed my **** off at that, any defender would prefer to play against a striker he knew was not going to score or create any chances for his teammates. KO is an easy man to play against, you dont have to do anything, he fecks it up for you.

Just off to Hospital to have my **** sewn back on. :D :D :D :D
