Bryan Kidds name been mentioned, and a few more will get mentioned if thats the way we are going in future with the manager doing football buisness end, and Director of football doing all the signings and paperwork. who would you like as a new Director of football if there is going to be one. Looking over Robins and advicing as well i bet.
Mark Robins. Combining both. Save the wage and use it for a CEO and get something resembling a proper Board structure.
Director of football my arse. How can a manager do his job, when he cannot bring in his own players, and has to work with somebody elses choice. There is no way for him to win, completely undermined by the so called Director. Stupid, stupid, stupid. Either employee a manager you trust to buy players and get them playing or just don't bother at all. Let the board decide who to play and what formation.
Championship Chairman 2009 for PC.

If we get a Director of Football We might as well plan for League One now - when has it ever worked anywhere? I don't think we will.
RE: If we get a Director of Football It's a bad idea, always has been. The main problem is that it invariably creates conflict between the manager and the Director. Unless the manager actively asks for assistance on the transfer front I'd avoid at all costs.
RE: Course it does... I suspect the logic behind is as an answer to the lack of footy knowledge and contacts on the board. The model would likely be Robins to look after the team and identify targets and the Director of Football to go out and make the deals happen. It's more than likely how things worked when Dennis was in charge. I'm sceptical though. As you say, the Director of Football would likely involve himself in targetting players and it potentially created uneccessary conflict. Plus, who's to say the new bloke will have even met Robins. Appoint your manager and let him manage.
That is one thing I will never understand Director of Football ? load of old ***** A bakery owner does not employ another to select the yeast and flour for his Master Baker.
What a dreadful idea Any club that gets a director of football in alway seems to go to sixes and sevens almost over night simple as a result of people not knowing who is in charge. On a day to day level the first team manager should be getting the backing from the board and he should be getting on with the job, running the show. If he needs someone to help him get players he should hire a very good head scout who reports to him directly.
RE: What a dreadful idea Dont disagree but Boards do need some good practical football experience, something I dont think our current board has enough of
I disagree we need a figure in the background with contacts within the game overlooking the club. If we are getting a young manager with little experience it makes sense to give him as much support as possible, its not making signings for him but giving him plety of options and not having to gamble as much on unknown players.
