Can't be Ian Banks - He made his debut in 1980, I think. Certainly not as late as 84.

He didn't go to Roitherham until he'd spent time at West Brom - he signed for them from us If memory serves.

And then he went to Rotherham - but signed permanently, not loan. It might have been after his second spell with us, not his first.
