Nardiello's looking up again Tuesday May 16 2006 Daniel Nardiello admits he was not good enough to play for Manchester United but insists he is ready to fire Barnsley into the Coca-Cola Championship. The 23-year-old former United trainee was released from Old Trafford last summer when he joined Barnsley on a permanent basis following a successful loan spell. He scored the winning goal in the Tykes' exhilarating 3-1 win at Huddersfield last night to secure Andy Ritchie's side an aggregate 3-2 success. A play-off final showdown on May 27 against Swansea now awaits, and Nardiello believes Barnsley are well capable of returning to the second tier of English football after a four-year absence. The striker said: "Sir Alex Ferguson was great and gave me a few chances in the first team but at the end of the day I just wasn't good enough to play for Manchester United." He added: "The highlight was playing away against Maccabi Haifa in the Champions League and I was involved in a few other games as well. "But the gaffer told me there were clubs I could go to and Barnsley were the one I chose because they treated me so well when I was on loan last season. "I had to get away and play games in the Football League and can hopefully now work my way up with Barnsley by getting into the Championship. "We've got a good squad here and we'd be more than confident of staying up there if we get promoted."
