    What will the strike achieve?

I just don't get it. This whole of europe is struggling to stay a float and your solution to it is to go on strike!!

Or put it another way, the whole of Europe is struggling to stay afloat and corporations who are doing badly have directors and chairmen who have on average just given themsleves a 49% increase in their salary.

Don't blame people who are trying to protect what little they have struggled to earn when the top 1% are massively increasing their wealth.

Re: me and wife also.. picketing and march.

I am striking to try and protect my pension and that of my colleagues and future generations of co-workers.

It isn't a pension that is going to end in the destruction of western society, unlike the Greek or Italian system we cannot work 30 hour weeks and retire and age 50 on 90% pensions.

I work in a University, I pay for my pension, it is a well funded pension scheme. It's not an amzing scheme, it looks likely my wifes pension from an engineering company will end up being better than mine, but her scheme isn't under pressure from people who say she is a scrounger that is destroying the economy.

I'm doing my best to ensure that not only will I not drag on my life until I'm 100 years old, but that my pension will go straight back to UK businesses - local breweries, pork pie manufacturers and small town football clubs.

At some point, you have to stand up for what you believe in.

    Re: What's uneductaed about it..

The whole stealing of public sector pensions by employers is a classic example of economists extrapolating on straight-line, biological data sets that are curves.
The assumption that life expectancy will continue to increase as a straight line is a nonsense. Particularly if you raise the age of retiring and reduce pension rates – will poorer, more worn out workers still enjoy so many years of retirement. Of course not. Not to mention the fact that we are less healthy, and more stressed than ever before. Sure life expectancy will go up as a straight line… not
The idea of increasing retirement age in school teachers by two years is sick; given the life expectancy of a male teacher is two years post retirement. But what a saving!! Do you want your kids to be educated by teachers to the point of death??
The idea we cannot afford it is simply a lie. Like Rosco I am in the university pension scheme which is totally self funded and economically sustainable.
So yes I am on strike!

    Re: What's uneductaed about it..

Glad to hear it. I am in the LGPS which is also self funded and sustainable, a very well run scheme. Don't see why we should have our pensions raped to make up the loss caused by the bankers, which lets face it has been the major problem, when the very people who caused the financial meltdown are expected to do nothing to solve it. It is disgusting to be frank.
