https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/68361025 Thoughts? Can’t see Leeds, City or Liverpool fans getting behind it…
I would like to see England games played in the north but that doesn’t necessarily require the building of a new stadium, especially using taxpayers money to benefit Manchester United… I can certainly think of better ways to ‘level up’ than this, including building decent rail routes and / or electric bus routes to connect towns / villages to northern cities
So Jim Ratcliffe doesn’t want to pay his taxes in the UK, but he does want to use our taxpayer money to build a stadium for his football club. Sounds about right the scrounging príck.
"It's about time someone built a national stadium in the north of England," said the British billionaire. crack on then mate, but don't use public money to do it
Old Trafford is in need of major remedial work. The roof is literally leaking in places. Having sat in the ground for a concert I can vouch that the leg room in that big stand opposite the main stand is cramped. Ratcliffe is right, it needs replacing but that's Man Utd's problem and doesn't have to concern the taxpayer.
Manchester Council own the Etihad and the capacity is being increased to 62,000. Absolutely no need for another taxpayer funded stadium, Jimmy.
The guy's correct about the southern bias. Everything gets sucked into the south east - its like a perverse whirlpool-type thing. There was an opportunity to build a national stadium in the midlands after the old wembley was knocked down but surprise, surprise London got it. Shock horror.
He doesn't give a flying fk about the merits of the North having a stadium to use as national stadium. He just wants the taxpayer to pay for Man Utd's new ground. The arrogance of the bloke to even suggest it - he can fk right off. Pay for your own stadium you scrounging ******.
Council got a right result there. Cost £110m to build with Council only funding £33m of it. Rest was paid by Sport England. Capacity increase is also being funded by City.
Can’t knock him for trying. They’ll not want to stump up the cash for a new stadium & wont want any FFP issues whilst they build one so he’s trying his luck. Wouldn’t be fair if they did receive taxpayers money & I don’t think they will. Arsenal pretty much sacrificed 10 years of competing financially with Man Utd & Chelsea to build & pay for their stadium.
