I’ve always been aware of all the risks out there these days and am very careful with my online activities. However somebody in Hampshire stole all my nectar points on Sunday. 7,000 points worth about £35 were redeemed at a Sainsbury’s Local in Southsea and they then had the cheek to make another purchase to add a small number of points back onto my card! I called Nectar Monday morning and got good customer service - within minutes they had cancelled my card, opened a new account and reinstated the 7,000 points. The guy was a bit evasive about how this had happened (ie didn’t know) but assured me that their security team would investigate. I’ve heard nothing since. I know it’s not like people who have their bank accounts hacked but it was still disturbing. I can only assume someone had somehow broken into their system to steal my details and then created a duplicate card. That’s useless now because I acted quickly but I wonder if they can do it again? I’ve changed my nectar password. I use it every week at Sainsbury’s, and less often at other outlets like Esso petrol and Argos. First time I’ve been hacked and it’s not a nice feeling!
A couple of weeks ago, I had an email saying my points were locked and I had to give authorisation to spend them. It was actually from Nectar, so I'm guessing we'd hit a points level where they get locked or there is an increase in scams, probably the latter.
Ah yes, I noticed on Sunday that my points were unlocked. They’re locked now but it may be possible to get round that as well. Who knows?
