Come on lads and lasses instead of posting negative stuff constantly post some positive stuff. The most important thing is the performances of the team on the pitch and having a good financial footing off the pitch. The rest of the drivel spoken about on here is just not important. I was one of the ones that went to the Hull game the other day and it was very encouraging. Players looking fit and passing the ball, defensively quite well organised and with the addition of Howard and Kell to the side in the coming weeks optimism should ne higher. Reid and Carbon looked a slolid partnership, Kay looked strong and effective in midield and Hayes and Nads looked a good partnership. Many other clubs would have liked to have signed Hayes and we completed the deal, that says a lot for the ambition and also for the fact that financially things are moving forward. AR seems by all accounts to be happy with his squad and I did overhear a conversation on Monday where it was stated that the club would support AR when needed in the transfer market but they are happy with the squad they have and believe in them. As for all the comments re catering etc etc, the prices at the club are may be dictated by the contract caterers and the clubs overheads. I dont know but neither do any of you lot so what is the point in speculating? My main aim at Oakwell is to go and support the lads in their quest for promotion, the rest pales in to insignificance. People on here are quick to criticise saying their views arent heard or listened to but that is life. No decisin made will be met with universal approval but what if GS doesnt read this board how can he respond to anything? And if he does then that is considered wrong by some, it is a no win situation and I for one am happy that we have true fans in charge of this club who have the clubs interests at heart and who are desperate to put things right so we can move forward again. Roll on Sat, lets beet Leeds and then lets beat Swindon and concentrate on what matters. BTW the Leeds fans wanting to go have to buy tickets from their box office prior to the match. Rant over lets get behind them and cheer them on like we used to when we got promoted or when we were being pasted in the Premiership. Lets actually SUPPORT the team.
Admire your blinkered positivity I took a similar approach to last season, it cost me an extra £150 a mountain of pillocking After the quietest pre season I can remember, we've ended up with a smaller squad in numbers in a League where teams are running with bigger squads due to the changes in the transfer rules (window and loan system). Not taken in by the rhetoric that we're 'going to give it a go', cos its half hearted at best. I can sit on a rotting and broken seat, buy a bottle of warm pop for me lad and queue for 30 minutes for an over priced pint IF we're winning games. or at least moving in the right direction. I suggest for now we hold off and pick this debate up again after we've played a game or 2 that means something.
How long would this message board last If every post consisted of: I love Barnsley me. The reds are just great. Everything the manager and board do is first class and I don't disagree with any of it. Barnsley FC is perfect in every way. I'm not saying the positives should not be accentuated. It was a very encouraging performance against Hull and a number of people have said just that. The results and the performances of the team are the number one priority of every Barnsley supporter, but that does not mean they should not be concerned with the many other aspects of the football club. Wanting better and more affordable catering, a social club, a bar in the Ponty End and a more professional outlook by the club does not mean a person is being negative. They want the club to maximise their potential and generate more funds for the team while at the same time giving fans value for money. If you find all such topics 'drivel' then don't read them, but this is a discussion board and such posts promote discussion. Saying how great Barnsley FC is does not.
RE: How long would this message board last Ok Jay, the fans that winged about increased season ticket prices should accept it then so that the club can invest the money elsewhere and improve other aspects. What most people dont understand is that BFC has massive running costs and therefore things cost more to buy and hence sell on. This also applies to other sporting venues where there is a captive audience, at the end of the day the money is going in to supporting the club, what is so wrong in that. Why should the club sell stuff at a loss? Also if the catering is sub contracted out and the bars BFC may have no control over the prices charged. All I am saying is we don't know the detail so lets just concentrate on the important aspect of supporting our club, that is the players and their performances.
RE: How long would this message board last No one minds a business making a profit, but there is a big difference between profit and rip off. However, while folk pay the prices the club will continue to charge them.
RE: How long would this message board last We have lost 3 million quid over the past couple of years how is that making a profit?
an example as to why high prices does not equal high turnover. shirts are too expensive, we sell hardly any. over clubs charge less and sell twice as many. = more money to them. plaus more fans because they see it as a bargain.
RE: How long would this message board last which makes it even worse when you feel that you are being ripped off by extortionate prices and the club aren't making a profit from it. Anyway, I didn't make myself clear as my original comment about profit was in relation to the catering charges.
RE: an example i think prices are getting too high i mean a rise in season tickets after last year i think a freeze on prices all round would have been a nice jesture by the club.
