Neighbour went yesterday - 1st time in ages cos weather was nice !!! It cost him £41

Had a good chat whilst hanging the washing this morning, !!!!!!! he works weekends but had this weekend off as he goes on his hols tonight, so because the weather was good he explained he went to watch the reds and even though we played really well and fought like lions he said it still was just to much money to watch on a regular basis but said he will make an effort for all the yorkshire derbies.

A really good insight on what an average bloke has to pay at Oakwell on an average home game.

    £28 to get in
    £4 to park
    £3 programme
    £6 for drinks and food

all in all £41 just to watch the reds at home and if he would have had a few beers in town you are looking at a £60 - £70 day out. Fair enough against our fellow Yorkshire teams but christ almighty Bristol brought 3 - 400 tops. - 2 home games in the space of ten days and its a basic of £70 - £80 cost even if you don't touch any alcohol.

I told him how lucky he was not to have been watching them since January 2012, even the people who got in for free felt robbed !!!!

£28 to watch BFC is just too much money for a working class town like Barnsley, couple that with the terrible form back end of last season and the last few seasons of scraping to stay in the league by the skin of our teeth is the reason why the club is on its arse with the low crowds. The club has driven its core support away, and once they are gone and out of the habit they stay gone.

Disco Don is clueless when it comes to the pricing policy and needs to change it quickly because 7,500 reds fans at Oakwell in the championship is very embarrassing.

They need to drop it to a across the board £20 per match with half a dozen big games at £25 (ie: L**ds, W*******y and Shellikesheruddersfield)

I had a text of a millers mate this morning saying they had more in the canteen que at half time than we had in Oakwell - says it all !!!

    £85 in diesel
£0 on match because I have my ST
    £20 on food and drink
    £3.50 parking

And that was on a budget :)

He wants to go back and get his change. I make that £41. Wise words though.

I get your point, but he could've parked for free elsewhere, and saved his money on food and drink by taking something with him. Saves a tenner straight away

Seriously. Let's lower our prices to a tenner a match (still too Much for some folk) and let's watch 4th division football. The TINY profit we made last year, you wither want championship football or you don't. Or you coul buy a season ticket which equates to half the matchday entrance fee. Sup to you.

I've never understood people factoring in food to their Oakwell visit budget! They don't have to eat there! Have lunch at 1pm and dinner at 6pm - like you do every day! You don't have to buy a £3 burger!!!

How many 'pay on the day' fans went yesterday ?

    500 ?

The policy of discouraging occasional supporters is working. Tailoring towards season tickets is fine if we'd had successful seasons and a more positive message than 'prove the bookies wrong'

As things stand we are making next to **** all on pay on the day tickets so the argument about reducing ticket prices impacting income is becoming more and more null & void.

Serious re-think needed - but that would need some initiative and lateral thinking - all seriously lacking from Rowing et al in my opinion

The current policies will run this club into the ground.

I agree with thrappo to be honest. If your going to make it a regular thing just buy a season ticket. If you can't afford the one off payment, pay over 10 months. 37 quid a month is a decent saving over buying match day tickets. Court house parking is free, take your own pack up and you don't have to get a programme every week. I don't think it's THAT expensive.

Re: Neighbour went yesterday - 1st time in ages cos weather was nice !!! It cost him

How the **** can a championship team charge a score a game? Unfortunately we're a business that need to trade.
And why fetch 'disco don' into equation?

If fans used there noggins and bought 1 of these £3 loyalty cards they could get in for £25, if people still think paying 25 notes to watch a championship game then there servely behind times. A bet it's £20 to watch conference teams.

Football isn't a cheap hobey but a don't see point in folk constantly moaning about our prices.

Not sure what they charge, but I just checked Chesterfield's prices (similar size town/city and of a similar social background); they charge £18-22 for an adult ticket in L2.

Re: Neighbour went yesterday - 1st time in ages cos weather was nice !!! It cost him

The pricing policy basically means its ST or nowt for most people. That's OK, but a two seasons ago, I thought there were about 5 really enjoyable games out of the ones I saw. Hence I took a year out. Glad to say, having rejoined the fold this year, 2 of 2 have been excellent.

Difficult one for The Don - he has to drop the matchday prices or wave farewell to any casual support. On the other hand, that would reduce the ST holders!

To be fair, it was your neighbours choice to buy a programme, food/drink.Prices are advertised.

    Not being funny but

    £4 to park

Parking is free in town on a Saturday - Courthouse - short walk.

    £3 programme
Not compulsory to buy a programme

    £6 for drinks and food
Why? Anyone who can't go for a couple of hours without eating or can't take something with them has a problem.

£28 - that's the price. (Too high in my opinion), but the rest is optional.

Re: Neighbour went yesterday - 1st time in ages cos weather was nice !!! It cost him

    Or...

    £28 to get in
£0 for their lass to drop him off so no parking fee
    £0 for a programme - it's not a pre-requisite
£0 for food. It's a 90 minute football match not an attempt on the north face of Everest.

I still agree that £28 is too much for some people though, but they've also got to respect season ticket holders and the benefot of them buying one. £22 is fair I think.

At the end of the day the home attendance (pay on the day) against Middlesboro was shocking - and that was after people had all summer to save up for it.

Now, I know times are hard, but **** me, if people can't save £28 in nearly 3 months then they need to have a long hard look in the mirror.

So, in summary, I'm not convinced reducing the prices will have much of an impact on numbers paying on the day, but in principle, I believe it should be lower than £28.
