I could believe that, they have been linked in the past. Now if you could put Austins determination into McPhail you would have a player.

if i were George Burley (if hes still there) id sign Bobby Hassell for free, currently better than Austin and will cost less (£0).
(lets hope he doesnt read the board)

Some of these free players because their contracts are up are bound to ask for bigger wages, just hope our club realises that and dont offer them Mickey mouse wages.

Thing is as Austin and Kay are less than 24 we are entitled to compensation.

    marvellous

We'll be the richest team in the football league with no playing squad.

So you suggest we try and compete financially with these bigger clubs then and go back in to financial instability?

    Sensible viewpoint!

I want to know what Cardiff are doing. Saying they need to reduce their wage bill and need to sell their best players (Jerome) to get money and then they pay £500k for Chopra and a 3 year deal for Mcphail (probably on a few bob)
    Ridsdale is a joker

    no

But the point raised was that the club has to realise that it can't offer 'mickey mouse wages'.

It is understandable to say that if for example cardiff want to offer 10k to mcphail (an example) then we have to accept that we cant pay that money but there has to be a point where we realise that good players don't play for 50 quid a week.

If we aren't even going to try and compete then the club might as well ask to drop back down to league 1 now.

Page 46 of yesterday's paper says "Saints are also hoping to sign Barnsley's Neil Austin, who can play left or right back"
