Been told he can leave Forest.

Would be a good signing I reckon, ideal for that 'holding' midfield role that Davey insists on utilising.

    And?...

John Macken wasn't getting a game at Derby...dosn't mean to say he dosn't have that bit of quality.

Lennon could do a job for us in midfield. Obviously, Davey dosn't rate Togwell or Johnson. And he is insistent on playing a DM, in recent weeks - this has been Hassell. If De Silva dosn't come in, we need to start looking elsewhere.

    I disagree...

Age is only in the mind. A fantastic footballer on his day.

A lot of people forget when we signed Kevin Richardson, a lot of people scorned him for being 'too hold', he was fantastic for the time we had him.

Is your Kevin Richardson comment a wind up?

    If so, it's very funny.

RE: Is your Kevin Richardson comment a wind up?

No, it isn't. It wasn't meant to be funny.

Kevin Richardson was a great influence when he came to us. His career was winding down but he still had that effortless quality on the ball. Sure, he wasn't a Hignett or a Redfearn but he was a brilliant footballer - cut out of the old mould of footballers. He was an unsung hero that season.

    Really?!

I thought there were no heroes at all that season as we were a complete pile of *****. Richardson came to us for exactly that reason - to wind down his career whilst getting a decent payday from a club which was at the time paying huge wages for very mediocre or past-it players. I honestly thought that Richardson's effect on the team was minimal, as he was far too slow, shy to tackle and passed the ball mostly sideways. Still, world would be a dull place if we all agreed on everything.....!

Btw - I do agree that Neil Lennon would be worth a shot on a short-term contract if we can't get Anderson!

    And..

Derby are a league above us, but Forest are one below us.

I'm still getting over the fact that someone though Richardson was superb.........

not saying he was terrible, but he didn't pull up any trees!

I think Lennon could be a great signing offer him a short term deal. But then again I think Johnson is a good player and should be given a chance thought he was the only one getting stuck in in the first few games of the season..... Lennon is a different kettle of fish though, a class above. The holding midfielder and the experienced head that we lack.

    RE: Really?!

    Merde,

I'm not saying Richardson was FANTASTIC, but he was a very good player. A lot of people don't know, but at that time - Richardsons off field advice and his tactical awareness of the game were second to none. I had a friend playing for the academy at the time, and he said Richardson was brilliant in training, not only skillwise - but advice wise as well.

From the games I saw him play, he was good. He got the ball down, and did the basics with consumate ease. He played good football, nothing flashy, nothing spectacular, just played basic football - something that is lacking from the game today.

A prime example of someone like that, (albeit in a completely different league and class) is a somewhat over looked figure by the name of Xavi at Barcelona. Who for me is far and away the BEST midfielder in the world. Ask any die-hard Barca fan who the most consistent and best FOOTBALLER is and they will say Xavi. The fact is, these type of players get overshadowed by the glitz, glamour and goals of more 'easy on the eye' players ie Ronaldo, Beckham etc...

    RE: And..

Thing is though, I don't think that someone of Lennon's abilities is very likely to shine in League 1. Too many cloggers who'll try to knock the **** out of him before he's managed to pass the ball, and secondly, are the players around him intelligent enough to anticipate some of the things that a player of that ability can do? I think this was probably Nicky Eaden's problem when he played for Forest at that level too.

    :)

    Strictly speaking, yes.

Wouldn't mind signing Lennon for rest of the season though. Not a fan of Hassell playing in the middle, and Togwell's passing is awful.

Still holding out for Anderson coming back, mind you.

    (wicked)

    RE: Really?!

Fair play, and I don't doubt a man of his experience and undoubted ability in his younger days would have been a fantastic influence off the field for everyone at the club. I just don't think that alone warrants him a place in the team. Maybe he wasn't as bad as I remember - I think one thing that really did it for him in a negative way was that many people perceived him as Redfearn's replacement, especially as he took over as captain. Clearly that was never going to happen in footballing terms, hence a lot of negative comparisons between the two.

    RE: And..

If he had all this "ability" at 36 why didnt a team in a higher league snap him up when he was available on a free.

I'd sooner stick with Togwell in the squad.

    Lennon is past it!

No way is he capable of championship football.
I saw him on opening day of season as i was watching my nephew who is with bournemouth.
Best player by a country mile on that pitch was Darren Anderton
Yes, I couldnt believe it myself.
So do we go out and sign him?
