We'll be very lucky if we do. He may not be the best player technically ever to grace Oakwell but in terms of his all round game, leadership, effort, work-rate and what he gave to the team he is the best player we've ever had IMO. Quite rightly voted the best Barnsley player of all time.

Without him Brazil, promotion and the Premier League season would never have happened. Thank god we got rid of Machin (who deployed him as a defensive midfielder!).

My favourite memory though was when he scored for Charlton on his debut, ran to the crowd, went to kiss his shirt as he'd done so many times when wearing red... and stopped, realising he wasn't at Barnsley any more. Fair brought a tear to my eye did that.

Brilliant player for Barnsley and not just in his goalscoring. Would run all day, hardly ever injured, incredibly motivational to fans players alike, had a foot like a traction engine and took a great penalty. Plus he scored our first goal in the Premiership - it couldn't have gone to a better player.

Throw in over 1,000 league appearances, 10 goals in his Premiership season (Michael Owen top scored with 18 that season, Redfearn was highest scoring midfielder) - the man is a Reds legend and rightly so.

Re: Neil Redfearn at his peak..........but could Butters be the same in.......

    ...........another few years time.........
Many of the Redders goals reminded me of Butters
If Butters keeps progressing has he has done over this last couple of years then I think he will be as good if not better than Redders

I've seen Butters today in his silver BMW going towards town
