My eldest daughter has asked for us to get Netflix. She wants to use some of her money for it. Ive heard that it's a bit rubbish, and don't want her to waste her money. I don't want her watching stuff for the sake of it Can anyone shed any light on what to expect/ what fils you get in the package. Neither me or my other half are interested, so if we got it, we'd only be interested in stuff for a 14 yr old and a 10 yr old.
I had it for a few months for free and found it a load of rubbish. Saying that, I tried it for films and I've heard many people say that Netflix is good for series (no idea what the plural of that is!) I think they have their own too which a lot of people like. If they want it for films mainly, then I don't think it is worth it personally. You can get a free one month trial on their website, why not try that and see if they are still interested at the end of it?
I very rarely watch normal tele so watch the series on Netflix a lot. Good value for money. You should be able to get a months free trial then perhaps another month. If you have virgin they are offering 6 months free with some packages for new customers and can be persuaded to extend this to existing customers if you threaten to leave. If your daughter is watching it on a tablet. Have a look at Flixanity a free app which is a bit like cartoon HD.
We had a few free months and there wasn't a great deal on there that interested me, although In my pre-kids days I watched films fanatically, so I'd seen all of the older films that would have interested me. My daughter, however, loved it, as apparently there's lots of stuff on there that doesn't come on the telly. She's a couple of years younger than your youngest, but she tends to watch American stuff aimed at young teenage kids. I've told her that I'm going to renew with netflix for a month when we come back from our holidays and then Lovefilm for a couple of months to catch up on the last few months releases (we sacked Sky movies a while back) and she's more excited about Netflix. I just want to watch the second series of House of Cards and Hemlock Grove.
I've had it for over 2 years and I find it well worth the money. I have watched loads of tv series boxsets. Most recently Dexter & Arrested Development. I'm currently watching Breaking Bad & Chuck. You get a lot of older films that you can watch again. They have a selection of newer films but still not the latest. I use xmbc for the new stuff. It has a lot of kids tv shows for toddlers upto young teens. they have also signed some deal with Disney so they are getting a lot more of their films on now. And i think they signed a deal with a couple of major film companies so they should start to filter in soon. If you are tech savvy you can view the Netflix website through a proxy and get American content that's newer than ours, it has most of the fox & abc network shows like walking dead, family guy, American dad.
UK Netflix is crap, but if you want to be risky you can trick it into thinking you're in the US and it's great
If you pick through the rubbish that pads it out you can find some decent movies. The kids site has a broad range of kids cartoons and animated films. The kids stuff is better than the grown ups.
Have you seen Lovefilm since Amazon changed it all? It's truly terrible now. I'd had it for years on various free deals and I've ditched it. Confusing layout and anything remotely new you have to pay for. Not worth the time or effort.
