I don't know about his main target but it appears he's definitely a target. A strange choice in my opinion.
I think it would be a great signing. He's always played well against us when he's returned to oakwell. We're going to have a very young team this season and need some experience, so why not Brian Howard. He's tried to get back here many times and I'm sure he would put the effort in if we signed him.
Might be able to do a job, but 'great signing' is pushing it a bit. Clearly past his best, and hardly pulled up any trees since leaving.
More like Barnsley is Brian Howard ' s main target. Get the feeling many people are looking at this through rose tinted spectacles. He's done nothing since he left us all those years ago. Journeyed around from one club to the next, had many spells of bad form and injury. But because he was good for us 6 YEARS AGO, many think it would be a brilliant signing. Me personally, I think had it been anyone else, nobody would have wanted him to sign. We've had many players in the same position who have had similar circumstances over the last few years but none of them have really showed much sign of their past form (Lawrence, Tonge, Greening etc) and for me, Howard won't be any different. None of Lawrence, Tonge, Greening have a past connection with Barnsley. Some players only seem to do it at one club, eg kevin gallen. I'm not looking through rose tinted specs I believe he would be a good player for us in league 1. He's not been ***** since leaving us just not settled anywhere. He's certainly never been bad when playing against us
Think the Full House are chipping in with his wages - their profits haven't been the same since he left
Obviously Howard isn't the same player he was when he was last with us, but he always seemed a clever player that could play a good ball through and he knew where the goal was - surely you don't lose that? He doesn't seem to have been a regular at any club since us and that surely can't help either. We could do a lot worse than sign him up again, but I'd only do it if there was some protection in place for the club - ie not paying him a massive amount, rolling contract etc as if a player isn't committed to getting fit then they're a waste of time regardless of their talent.
