Nevermind Chelsea, why are our attendances so low?

Ive been listening to Talksport most of the day and they have been jabbering on about Chelsea's low attendence the other night, 18k under capcity. How they are not a very well supported club and the ticket prices are so high.

Anyway it got me thinking about us and how we are always well below a full house. Fair enough the away end isnt always full up. But if you look at it Scnuthorpe brought about 2.5 K on Saturday and the attendence was about 11k, leaving us with about 8.5k reds fans. Well below with a capcity of about 18 thousand in the home end

Well why is it so low? I sort of know the answer, cant get, too expensive, lazy and waiting for them to be that good its fashionable to say,Yep Im Barnsley through and through me. Now cant get and too expensive I think are good excuses, while the other two are definately not.

Now the town is not that small and other towns in our league attract more fans. So why not us.

Im just interested why people dont go. Ok not if you live in outer mongolia or summat. Just if you could go and you dont and why.

Thanks

Got to say that from my own personal point of view that i'm surprised our gates weren't higher either - especially in light of the 'turnout' for the Play Offs. Where are those Barstewards that turned out then? Methinks they should be showing a tad more gratitude - especially in light of the entertainment they got that evening.

Club needs to have a think about this

What about one of the schemes like we had against Leicester? Couldn't say exactly what it was but it put bums on empty seats and money in the bank

Your right. In away we should be proud that we are a Championship club. If you look at the clubs below us and in light of the problems we have had over the last few years we are very doing well. People should be proud of the club and come and show their support and be thankful to Ritchie, Cryne & Shepard and I suppose Mr Davey.

RE: Club needs to have a think about this

I heard that the revenue generated from £10 tickets is not enough to pay for the extra policing and stewards etc. But I might be wrong.

Would be a good idea

then stick all the quid for a kid tickets in the other part of west stand keep em out of the way! Trouble with as well is we are stuck in the middle of a few 'big' clubs. - Weds , Untd , Leeds not that far away from manchester as well -

i'm sure you are....

if we filled the rest of the ground, about 10000 seats at least paying just £10 thats £100000 not counting pies, programs etc. surley the police dont charge that much extra. Even if they did i would rather see us have a full ground and only make the same amount of profit than have half empty oakwell

Always be our problem I'm afraid

Been going for 30 years and nowts changed - get annoyed having to queue for the big game tickets and people at those games asking where the East Stand is! :D

be interesting if they did something like, you have to have 10 (or a number) of matchday tickets or a season ticket to be able to buy a big game tiket i.e big team in cup, wedensday, leeds, sheff u etc

but that would be people watching man u not barnsley.....

like in the prem there must have been 3-5 thousand fans in the home seats not giving a toss whether we won or lossed as long as they were seeing the stars.

you can't expect the cardiff lot to turn up either. if everyone who supports barnsley turned up to the game we could probably have filled cardiff ground twice but it was a one off game and there never going to come week in week out

attendances so low?

I was shocked too. Though the ticket prices are a bit a killer for those who dont have much. But I have a tendancy not to believe the figures. The Leicester match there were loads of supporters in the stadium who did not have seats in the West Stand. Yet sts didnt reflect owt like the true attendance.

in promotion season 96-97 attendancees were much worse

than they are now, started the season getting 7-8000 and only had 2 sell-outs for home fans all season (bradford and oldham), fans wont come and watch
unless the team produce something worth watching consistently, and it takes barnsley fans a long time to be convinced as 96-97 showed!
It's also way too expensive, i' mean, 20 plus quid for a couple hours of entertainment..or not.....ridiculous !!

and the prices in 96/97 were £10 a ticket ?

It's a dear do is footie , I'm a season ticket holder and it works out at approx £14.50 a match which is acceptable to me, but if I want to go to away matches with my wife it's £24 each at Southampton & travelling & something to eat etc.. it's got to be thick end of £100. If it was say £15 to get inI'd probably go to 10 or so away matches.

also wasn't Man City a sell out ?

The club wouldn't make any more on pies and drinks etc as that is contracted out so they'll already have had the cash for that.
If average gate went up significantly then of course they could command a higher amount next time the contract was due for renewal.

17K against city, nearly a sell-out, it's way too expensive though, i seem to remember it being about 14-15 quid about 10 years ago, stil think
that's about right now, i'm coming up for a family do next weekend so will be at the cardiff game, but it will be the first game i've been to
since cardiff home last year, but i'm living in london, if i lived in or near barnsley then i'd probably go to all home games....probably.
